Reluctant parents accompany their daughters to meet their mothers away from home. bl A Hrst stop for many new students is the College Book Store to buy a Murray State parka. TI-IE ULTIMATE BEGINNING 1923-one little, two little, three little buildings . . . 1939, 1945, 1956, 1961-1964! Buildings everywhere- old buildings, new buildings, buildings under construc- tion, and sketches still on the architect's board . . . Forty-one years of constant growth have made Murray's expanding campus what it is today, the South's Most Beautiful Campusf' But tomorrow its constantly chang- ing face will be still further modified and even more unrecognizable to old grads. The enrollment has soared from a handful of students at Murray Normal School in 1923 to a college of 4800 students in 1965. Among this year's additions to the physical plant of MSC were the ten-story women's residence, Elizabeth Hall, named for the First Lady of MSC, Mrs. Elizabeth Woods, the new, two-building complex composing the Applied Arts and Science Building, and the Home Economics Annex. The freshmen were faced with the inevitable be- wilderment of registration, ubiquitous lines, mid-term grades, the monsoon season, and the traumatic transfer from the secure shelter of home and parents to the col- lege campus and dorm mothers, new faces, cafeteria food, self-discipline, and hard work. But as every fresh- man class before, most of the novice collegiates soon adjusted and met the exciting challenge of college life at Murray State. A friend's help is welcomed as a student begins the initial task of unloading his car. I ' ' ' '- ' 1 aa?
