Representing Murray in the American Junior Red Cross, a community endeav- or, is Carole Thorsen. Here, she ex- plains to Dorothy Reiter and Jane Melrose the year's projects. Scrapbook exchanging with foreign countries, deco- rating local hospitals during the holi- days. filling boxes forthe needy, and pre- scnting programs for invalids were some of the planned events. 8103 At Home Abroad Jeanne Hella, Murray's American Field Service representative, tells Thorkild Nies- sen about her summer in Turkey. Thor, as he is known to Murray students, was sent from Denmark to spend the school year here, through the AFS program. Both stu- dents tell groups in the community as well as in the school about their experiences liv- ing abroad. Representatives are chosen on the basis of competition, written essays, and personal interviews. 'Q' How does it look to you? asks Paul Mayers, owner of a service station near Murray. Michael Johnson and Phillip O,Neill, both station employees, agree on a job well done. Several other stu- dents work at various jobs in super mar- kets, hospitals, restaurants, and service stations throughout the community. By exercising skills to serve the public, they have many valuable experiences in meet- ing and getting along with people, han- dling money, and having their own re- sponsibilities.

-:flaw Learn About Foreign Lands Y-Teens is a service organization spon- sored by the YWCA for high school girls. Tray favors are made for hospitals and CARE packages are packed to be sent overseas. The girls also have parties and entertainment at their programs. One of the projects for the girls from all over the city was to have a Mock U.N.U Each school was to represent a different country and to do this they had to learn about the customs and people. The study of these countries and others was part of the work of the Y-Teens' Mock U.
