Goes To Gffset Members of The Pilot staff met a new challenge by changing from letterpress to offset printing. The relatively new oiiset process is less expensive than letterpress, allowing staff members more freedom with color, design, and amount of pictures and copy used. With the help of Miss Margaret Glenn, journalism adviser, the stafi met their first deadline as early as December l, and had the first proofing completed by March 30. The staff had 'ithe time of their lives', creating a theme, choosing Murray's man of the year, voting on a cover, planning pages, taking pictures, and writing copy for The 1960 Pilot. Combining work with play Joyce Diffen- dorfer, Holly Hunt, and Carol Waterman, activities editors, are helping Thomas Ser- got and James Pearson get ready for the M 1 ' 591 e Each year the journalism department and Library Club join forces to sell Christmas cards, wrapping paper, and stationery. For Leisure Combine service, hard work, play, and the product is Library Club. Under the direction of Miss Marion Gratz, librarian and club adviser, members maintain the library and undertake numerous projects. The highlight of the year is Book Week. Following the theme, Build With Booksf' the juniors construct original displays exhibiting new books to be selected by the student body. Climaxing the weekfs activities is a tea honoring the faculty and parents of club members. Preparatory classes in library science are offered to the freshmen and sophomores. The classes are designed to fa- miliarize the students with the library and prepare them for staff work. Guiding and supervising the club and its members are the duties of these board members. From left to right are: Judith Kelsey, vice president: Julian Andersen, vice prcsidentg Sarah Johnson, presidentg Mary Sanford, program chairmanp William Mayer, treasurer: Robert Budde, sergeant- at-armsz Robin Atkins, recording secretary: Verne Comstock, corresponding secretary. Digging in their spurs in an attempt to revive the Old West, the Library Club board members corraled and branded ini- tiates Beverly Thompson and Russell Swan- son. Being trampled in the line of duty is staff worker, Jim Beattie, as he dodges under- classmen on his way to the library. One of the duties of staff members is to service the classrooms with book sets. Jim, who was on the early shift this year, found that being tall helped when he was called on frequently to do this job.
