Row 1 Richard Gjertson, David Christenson, Robert Tipler, Gerald Glaeve, Gary Niemczyk 0 Coach Clarence Fulmek, Lee Erickson, Frank Wandmacher, David Pietsch, Richard Lien, Richard Nelson, Douglas Krause. Golfers Take Second Taking second place in the city conference play and ending the season with a six win-two loss record was Murray's golf team, coached by Mr. Clarence Fulmek. The Pilots posted victories over Mechanic Arts, Harding, Wilson, Mon- roe, and Humboldt, while losing to the powerful teams of Central and Johnson. For the first time this year, golf has become a fall and spring sport. On September 22-23, a city tournament was held at the University of Minnesota. Richard Nelson, a senior, and David Pietsch, a junior, placed in the top eleven, and then entered the regional finals. In this regional tourney, each player can go as far as his ability will take him. Richard Nelson led the team by recording low scores all season. Show- ing great promises for this season are Douglas Krause, a senior, and David Pietsch, a junior. The tennis team finished its conference season with a four win-four loss record, and a fourth place berth in the city standings. The Pilots had vic- tories over Johnson, 4-l, Wash- ington, 4-1, Mechanic Arts, 3-2, and Harding, 4-1, but were set back by the powerful teams of Central, 5-O, Wilson, 5-0, Mon- roe, 5-0, and Humboldt, 5-0. ln the city finals, Bradley Pass, senior, represented Murray play- ing first singles, with John Preda, junior, playing second singles. Michael Barnes and Curtis Hoard played in the double- match. Mr. Bernard Broderick, coach, is looking for a very bright sea- son this spring with the return of seniors John Preda, Roger Ol- son, Richard Hosking, Verne Comstock. Easy Does It W.. N, E Dick Nelson led the team throughout the season with low scores due to his consistent putting. Dick's skill helped him gain hon- ors in the city and regional tour- nament. Here he is displaying his delib- erate style in the Murray-Harding match won by the Pilots. 29

GAA has added many new projects to their variety of sports this year. For the first time assemblies, planned by the sportheads and otiicers, are being held for all GAA members. Included in these assemblies are movies on the fundamen- tals of sports, and skits put on by GAA members. A new money making project this year was the GAA sponsored Homecoming dance and the selling of homecoming buttons. In order that an individual receive a letter, she must first achieve the 1,000 or 1,500 points needed respectively for Helping Mrs. Fritsche is her efiicient crew of GAA otiicers. They the 5911001 and AH'CitY letters- Points are are: Judith Sanford, presidentg Margaret Madigan, vice presidentg also earned by having good atendanee. Heather Wall, secretary, Nancy Thomas, recording secretaryg and Jeanne Rundquist, treasurer. GAA Enlarges Yea,r's Activities GAA Sportheads have many re- sponsibilities including selecting team captains and helping the of- fieers. Here sportheads Annette Gred- vig, basketball, Delores Ludwig, archery, Karen Anderson, swim- ming, Carol Anker, winter sports, and Sharon Cravath, tennis, are shown limbering up their muscles, Each spring twelve sophomore girls are se- lected to be sportheads during their junior year.
