The drums went bang and the cymbals clanged and the horns, they blazed away, paraphrasirig the well- known song as Murray's band began another fun-filled year. The fall schedule was closely packed with events, but the band managed to find time to prepare a concert. They gave the first recital concert of the year at Rice Park on November twenty-fourth. Soon after, the members of the French horn section at- tended a musical clinic. This clinic, which specialized in French horns, was sponsored by our own Murray High School band. Four other schools, Columbia Heights, North St. Paul, Monroe, Washington, and Murray bands gathered to- gether for the All-Star concerts. The concerts included both classical and modern music. All the conductors worked Page sixteen together, each one conducting one or two selections. Stepping out lively, the spirited group performed at all Murray's football games. Their half-time maneuvers not only delighted the fans, they were wonderful experience for the climatic appearance in the University of Minnesota's stadium. Their stirring music and well-timed formations provided a colorful treat for all who attended Murray's playing in the Twin City Championship game. Rochester was host to the renowned Murray skating Unit early in November, and they started the silver-blades sea- son off in fine style. Figure solo skaters Bernice Fortmeyer, Carol Parslow, and Karlene Boyd gave the performance a touch of grace and skill as they performed intricate rou- tines on skates, The games with Harding, Humboldt, and Johnson, an appearance at the St, Paul Saints-Rochester tilt, and the
