W. McCarley, B.A. Algebra Plane Geometry A Mathematics Department Mathematics is another course in high schools which has been down-ridden re- cently. However, Murrah offers five dif- ferent courses in this field: Two years of algebra, plane geometry, solid geometry, and trigonometry. Three years of math are required for graduation, and for those par- ticularly interested there is an extra-curric- ular course held each morning b e fo r e school. Mathematics is not only a study of fig- ures, quantities, and their relationship, but also it is the foundation for the other phys- ical sciences. It has become very important in every field: scientific, business and do- mestic. Thus it has become an important facet of life at Murrah.

Language Department One answer to the troubles of the world today might be found i11 better communication with peo- ple of foreign nations, and a better communication means a more extensive knowledge of foreign languages. High school is the best place to begin a study of languages, and they have become a very important part of the curriculum of Murrah. Three languages are offered at Murrah: Latin, Frenohq and Spanish. Biology 54 Sputniks, ballistic missiles, space travel and the H-bomb have turned the world spotlight on the sciences, especially in the high schools. High schools have been down-ridden because of the lack of sciences in certain schools. However, Murrah is not found lacking in this respect. Three years of science are taught at Murrah, one of them is required, and for interested stu- dents there is a special science class in the morn- ing before school. These three sciences, biology, chemistry and physics, have become basic in many vocations, and the courses at Murrah pro- vide a good background for the more advanced and specialized sciences of college.
