"We are preparing to serve!" This is the keynote of a new attitude which Central students have adopted since December 7. Knowing that they must meet the increasing demands of the war world, they have welcomed many new opportunities for preparation. Without organization and direction, however, many of our efforts would fail. The War Activities Council, formed to guide and concentrate our defense activities, is com- posed of the officers of the three classes and representatives from several school organiza- tions. Under this direction we hope to make full use of all our opportunities to stand by the nation. I Of course, the men on the home lines are as essential as those on the front. Training must be given for defense occupations as well as for fighting. The trade school, which offers classes for twenty-two hours each day, and several hundred students who are pre- paring for "production to win thei warf' In addition to regular school activities the trade school presents "conversion classes" for the general public from four p. rn. to six a. m. Friendly cooperation with our neighbors will help to make our war effort successful. What is more important, it will play a vital part in "winning the peace." But before we can have complete cooperation, there must be understanding. Centralites are gaining understanding through. a new course called "Our American Neighbors," in which the colorful and picturesque nations to the south are studied. fYC0ntinued on P. l2j ROSCOE D.
