w I WZo ' c A T % f : FORPvVORD The Journalism Class of 1957 hopes that the momentoes we have kept for you during this school year are the ones you . ' D DfCATfOM - V In grateful recognition for her work and the high ideals to which she has inspired us, we the students of Mulvane High School, dedicate this the 1957 Wildcat, in the hope that it will express in some measure our appreciation of her unstinting efforts. Her influence will for- ever remain stamped in our minds. STUDENT COUNCfL In addition to regulating many school affairs, the student council has had an active part in the school life. They sponsored the freshman initiation. This year a new idea was tried, instead of dressing in sloppy clothes, the freshmen wore good clothes. They also sponsored the Christmas dance, " Crystal Night. " To the second year, they have sponsored the campaigning and Student Council election. The student council is composed of two representatives from each class and a representative from each school organization. All degrees are based upon the achievements of the individual. The motto of the club, " Toward New Horizons " expresses the purpose of the organization in learning to live better today in order that our lives and those of our families may be better tomorrow. The colors: red and whiteare symbolic of youth; and the flower, the red rose, symbolizes a vibrant, glow- ing health. F.H.A. also has its own meaningful emblem and creed. The F.H.A. activities during the year were a coke party, box supper and square dance, and evening Christmas meeting, F.H.A. week, hostess ' to the district election, and an evening installation of officers and a style show. Don Bachm an, Don Apperson, Floyd Shoup, and Dale Truman attended the National F.F.A. Convention at Kansas City, October 15-18. With the help of their sponsors: Mrs. Donna Travis and Miss Garnet Wilson, the club promoted many plans for the school and community. it was not, however, all work and no play. There was the coke party at the first of the year, and the companionship of working together on projects, making them almost like play. Some of the projects undertook this year were sponsoring the homecoming dance, food for a needy family at Thanksgiving, a CARE package, a food sale. Meals for Millions, Villa Maria program, an Easter Egg hunt, and a mother-daughter tea. As these projects were put under way, they helped to gain points needed for the 1000 point award. The point system is used to stimulate group activities and to encourage student leaders to use all of their members when working on such programs.
