FLII TING: GAMES FEELING GREAT - uri-Un-'oi Everything you wanted Cond didn't wantj to know about the Oreo. The Oreo, the little black cookie with the cream center between two chocolate disks, has seen the arrival Cond often departurej of its kin with little twists added to make it a little different. These other cookies featured the original Oreo name, but for some reason, va- nilla-wafer Oreos. single-wafer Oreos, lemon- filled Oreos and and Oreos with twice as much stuffing are not quite the same. Now, there are even ice cream bars, sandwiches and even just ice cream that carries the fam- ous Oreo name. The basic Oreo still remains the world's best-selling cookie: over 400 billion have been sold since Nabisco introduced them in 4942 - enough to reach to the moon and back - twice. Now, you may ask, where did the Oreo name come from? Well, no one really knows, and strangely enough, no one knows what it means, either. The secret recipe developed more than 70 years ago is still in use today: One ton of dough is mixed at a time, then rolled, flat- tened, and cut into 4 V2-inch circles. The oven is preheated to 375 degrees F, and the wafer circles are baked for four minutes. They then head down an assembly line to be pressed together with the famous white cream filling. The process ends an hour and a half after it began, when the cookies are flash-frozen and packaged in their fa- miliar blue and white cellophane wrap- ping. The only problem with the Oreo cookie is its tendency to initiate con- troversy over the way it is to be eaten. Do you: 42 Eat it whole? 21 Eat the wafer first. 33 Or go for the creamy filling at first bite?
