Others leading the team were Jim DuPratt, Tom Coats, Joe Minatta, Van Baker, Terry Belmont, Roger Bryant, Aubrey Carter, Jack Petty, Ross Hoffman, and Dick Gilbert. The Pioneers did not have a great team, but they did have desire and the will to win. ln the first six games the Pioneers had relied on fine pitching and fielding. The mound staff were allowing less than two runs a game, while the light hitting Pioneers were mak- ing the best of their hits and averaging five runs a game. Dick Gilbert Tom Coats N5 vw. They started off well by winning their first six practice games but then dropped their next eight including six league games. Captain Jim Barnett has been the outstanding player so far. He has teamed with Joe Cusenza and Stan Turner for the batting honors. The main problem confronting the team seems to be a combination of pitching and errors.
