They have many different obligations to keep them busy. They call roll, lead exer- cises, help to teach the various activities, keep the locker in order and check in tow- els from the laundry. The girls' gym classes are taught sports such as volleyball, basketball, bowling, badminton, shuffleboard, ping pong, soft- ball, tennis, and archery. With the help of the student leaders, these sports are taught faster and easier. They demonstrate var- ious techniques, organize games, and sometimes participate in them. These girls lessen the burden on the teacher and help her to maintain smoothly-run gym classes. Sixty-Eight PDDL STUDENT LEADERS The pool leaders help Mr. Streeter to keep the swimming classes running smoothly and efficiently. These girls ex- plain and demonstrate various swimming skills, help the students to gain these skills, life-guard during class and for various other activities, and help at swim meets. Last spring the girls who were interested in becoming pool leaders filled out an ap- plication and took a swimming test. In addition to swimming ability, the girls had to show they were qualified by their lead- ership, responsibility, at least average scho- lastic ability in other classes, and citizen- ship around the school. The most qualified of these girls were chosen to assist Mr. Streeter. GYM LEADERS -- Row 1: P. Iohnson, L. Thompson, N. Tingstad, L. Muller, P. Hanly, M. Seidl. Row 2: S. Lawson, M. Hallawell, I.
