All actixity in the science classes was not
confined to the actual classroom. In biology
classes, Mr. Niehner added "color" by taking his
students on field trips. Chemistry classes, though
"conhned" to the lah, conducted interesting
experiments,

"Our boys will shine tonight. Our boys
will shinc . . The spirit ol was a cheer-
ing voice. lull ol school and class loyalty-
alire. ,-X spirit that was lonnd iitterbugging
at the "Rec", throwing parties, decorating its
cars in "red and white", and inventing the
inimitable Gracie Newman.
Senior girls started the lads ol wearing X'-
neclc sweaters. long ropes ol beads, and the
silver disks which were Snowball lavoisz the
rest ol' the school was cluick to lollow.
Senior boys immortalized the year with a
new basketball record-55 points made by' a
single boy in one game.
The last class to graduate from the "little
school" wound up an era ol tradition. Those
long hours spent on 120-CI or learning mem-
ory' lines lrom A1111 beth would go on, but
being typical seniors, to them, it seemed that
it c'oulcln't ever be the same. But grew
with the school too. College plans were made,
and a big step was taken towarcl making those
wonderful dreams come true.
Yes, '55, y'ou're a great class-we salute you.

It was it year ol' tears. Some of tts went to
parties, some of us went to games, some of us
did both, and one of us lell Olll ol at window!
During our lour years we touncl much thztt

that left us all zrghast and slightly tizuisezttecl, tlte
long struggle to earn our pins and guards. :intl
many other memories. There is nntch that lies
ahead, but there is tnuch that we will not soon
forget.
Carrol leietk :incl Bob Magolhn joined the senior class

Five cents, ten cents, lilty cents, a dollar,
All kids from Mt. Lebanon, stand up and
holler!!
The year "kicked off" with football and our
first XVPIAL victory since l950. The Blue Devil
returned to the spotlight with two assistants and
spiced those games with her antics despite the
insullerable cold. However. this was no obstacle
to the famous bunny that sprinted downfield,
obviously' keeping in condition for cross country.
Before, during, and alter the games, the football
managers, D. Smith. 'II Smith, Carnahan, Con-
ley, Mullen, Kappert, and Ferguson, kept on the
job. At the final home game, the annual "Senior
Recognition" was observed while the girls of '55
could be spotted by' their "Red and XVhite"
corsages.
Basketball "bounced in" in December and we
jammed the gym to give the cheerleaders and
the team our loyal support.
Track, baseball, golf, and tennis drew our at-
tention in the spring and thus another year of
Blue and Gold sports activity came to a close.

Mt. Lebanon finished the 1954 season with a
record of hve victories and four defeats.
The Mounties, under Coach Ralph Fife, won
exhibition games from Centerville, Perry, and
South Hills before going on to face stiffer AA
competition. The Blue Devils won their hrst
league game since 1950 when they downed Penn
40-l-1. The boys were really 'up' for this game
and they shook McMurry loose for hve touch-
down runs, none of them less than forty yards.
The following week's encounter was a definite
letdown as the Mounties were eliminated from
the YN'.P.I.A.L. race by XVashington. After drop-
ping a close heart-breaking contest to XYilkins-
burg, in which Short was injured and the Blue
Devils led in everything but scoring, the Blue
and Gold lost games to Uniontown by a close
score and to a rugged Butler eleven. The Senior
Recognition ceremony honoring the players of
the Class of l955 was the highlight of the Butler
game. ln the seasonslinale, Mt. Lebo swamped
XVestview in what might have'been a preview
of next year's team.
Senior backfield men were Drayne. Murray.
Short, Myers, Panick, Thomas, and Mclilurry,
voted the most valuable player. Senior linemen
who will be sorely missed next season were
McLain. McNeish, Karlovitz, Love, Horsman,
Hasley, Manning, Babcock, Elder, and Baker.
Underclassmen who will be the core of next
year's team were XValker, Kelleher, Beery, Kraft,
Hartwig, Miller, Graham, Grady, Fitzgerald,
Patterson, Albright, Donahue, Hanchey, Cusick,
Kenning, and many others.
Some of the 1954 season's highlights were the
running of Mchlurry, who tallied nineteen
touchdowns and sparked the Blue Devil ollense
throughout the season, the line-play of McLain
on both offense and defense, the punt returning
of Short, the pass receiving of XX'alker, and the
hue ball handling of Drayne.
Coached by Mr. Lamprinakos and Mr. Bern-
hardy, the junior varsity, green and inexperi-
enced at the season's start, had a record of one
win and one tie in eight games. All the losses
were by narrow margins and the boys gained
valuable experience which will make tlienrgood
prospects for next year's team.

l.ong hours ol harcl work and practice proved to be
the right formula as the Mounty H355 basketball team
finished second in the XY.l'.l.,X.l,. Section 4 standings,
their highest rating since ISHT. Coachecl by Mr. Clark,
the team compiled a record ol' I2 wins and T losses, with
only 2 section cleleats, both by XYashington.
During the exhibition games, seniors George Sc-hoepp'
ner and Art Humphreys, juniors John Reid and Jim
Beery, and sophomore Bill Roscoe earned positions in
the starting lineup. Other squad members were Pete
NIeNeish, Dare Marti, Cal Smith, llohn Sterrett, Bob
Alter, and Fritz Xl'alker.
The Blue and Cold wcm ox er Avalon and South Hills
but lost to lVilkinsburg, Shaler. Clralton, Meliees Rocks,
and Stowe in exhibition games. In section games, the
Mounties boasted double wins over lY1lfIlCSlJlll'g, Canons-
burg, Burgettstown, 'l'rinity, and Dormont but failed
to stop Hlashington, the section champions, in either
game.
Among the highlights of the season was the hrst game
with Dormont at home. Bit. Lebanon won a "sudden
death" Contest 72-T0 in the seccmcl oxertime with two
lree throws by George Schoeppner. Another thriller
was the first game with XYaync-sburg which the Mounties
won SS!-42. In this game the boys said, "I.et George do

end of the season, he was xotecl most xaluable player
lor the second straight year.
The junior varsity coached by Nlr. Stanish ended a
fine season with l2 xictories and T defeats. Although
they played good ball all season. the most exciting games
were the 48--ll win ox er XVashi!rgton and the 57-51 over-
time loss to Dormont. Sophouvires 'loin Cusick, Bill
Malarkey, and Butch 'Iiruesdalc. among others ol the

This year, Mt. Lebanon won the Tri-State Coaches'
Meet, the biggest and IHOSI competitive indoor meet, for
the third straight year. Aiding greatly' in this victory'
were the distance medley' relay' team of Knipe, Denman.
Lyle, and Crawford, and the mile relay' team ol' Rhen,
Myers, Giordano, and Karlovitz. Both teams set new
records ol 12:38.-1 and 3136.5 respectively. Outstanding
individuals throughout the indoor season were c'o-cap-
tains Bob Sparrow and Chet Berlin. Bob starred in the
high and the low hurdles, while Chet starred in the
high hurdles and the fifty' yard dash.
This y'ear's team bettered last y'ear's in every instance
except the Mansfield Relays. lX'e dropped from third to
seventh in this meet, but we won the main meets in this
area, namely' the lVashington Invitational, the ll'.1'.1.A.I,.
Relays, the .-Xllegheny' Independent Districts, and the
lV.l'.l.A.L. Championship Meets. Mt. Lebanon's win-
ning streak was extended to seventy-two dual and tri-
angular meets, the last loss having occurred in 19-H.
Bob Sparrow, outstanding throughout the season in
both the high and the low hurdles. was voted most valu-
able team member by' his teammates. In the Allegheny'
County' Meet, he tied the record in the high hurdles,
At the ll'.l'.I..-XJ.. Relays, he was a member ol both
shuttle hurdle relay' teams which set records of l:04.l
and 122613. In this same meet, our four-mile relay' team
set a record of 192223. In the ll'.I'.l.r-X.I-. Champion-
ship Meet, our mile relay team tied the school record of
31321, set just the week before. and Sparrow and Lyle
were individual champions.
The members of our team who place in the l'.l.A..-X.
Meet were: Sparrow-third in the high and the low
hurdles, Lyle-thircl in the 880. and our mile relay team
of Rhen, Myers, Karlovitz, and Crawford-fourth.
For the first time in Mt. Lebanon's history. a junior
varsity' track team finished the season unclefeatecl. Out-
standing performances were turned in by Masterson,
I-Ianchey, and Overholt in track events, and lYalker and
Patterson in field events. Because of their able perform!
ances, these boys helped Ollt in some varsity' met-ts.

The poor rec ord ol two wins and six losses in
league competition compiled by Mt. Lebanons
1954 basball team was due mainly to the lack
of experienced pitchers. The season's highlight
was the ousting ol Trinity from a lirstaplace tie
with M'ashington in XX'.1',l.A.1.. play. Schoepp-
ner, who hit 1300, was again yoted most yaluable
player. Many returning players giye promise oi
a better season in 1955.

tion XV.P.I.A.L. championship for the first time
since the early l930's. After making a clean
sweep of the league matches, the Mounties faced
other section winners. They downed Edgewood
but were stopped by a strong Tarentum team.
The doubles team of Saxton and Fowler, voted
most valuable player, took first place in
XV.P.I.A.I.. competition. Returning lettermen

The Mountv rifle team hnished the 1955 season with
four wins and five losses. Although this record did not
equal last year's, it enabled Mt. Lebanon to Hnish
fourth in M'.P.I.A.L.
Returning lettermen. Charlotte Folan and Bill Bab-
cock. paced the team throughout the season. For her
consistent good shooting Charlotte was elected the
team's most valuable member, the second girl to receive
this honor in Mt. l.ebanon's history. The highest season
averages wcre Folan's 98.7 Babcoclds 98.3, Gottschall's
97.9, and I-'ouse's 97.8. Folan, Babcock, Gottschall, Fouse,
Miller, Nagy, Hall and Norman won letters.
In his first year as coach, Mr. Neal was faced with
the task of trying to equal last year's record, despite the
fact that there were only two returning lettermen. Since
most of this year's team were juniors, however, there
are high hopes that next year Mt. Lebanon will again
be the XV.P.I.A.L. champions.

Art, typing, and photography yycre liandletl by isitting l.ee Nlooncy. Ianet Hoover.
Malcolm Fraser, Brian Nagy, Thom Sturt. standing, Barbara Strod, joan Cieblrardt,
joan Seidel, jack Isenberg, and Bill Bennett.
"You don't have to be crazy' to work on the
LOG, but it helps" became the motto ol the
H355 LEBANON LOG staff.
The activities of the yearbook stall were a
combination of planning and doing. Iiarly in
the school year, planning with a A'let's be diller-
ent" attitude received most attention and could
be observed by' any' typical meeting ol' the edi'
tors, Clark Delrne, Elizabeth Erskine, and Ann
Greer, or the general staff. Student photog-
raphers and Mr. Rosser became common sights
with their appearances at each important event.
lhe 1.06, literary' staff listened intently as Liz Erskine
explained and assigned LOG write-ups.
Artists pondered over the looks ol' the "LOG
Dog" while the l2th grade committee compiled
the returns of the Senior Poll and listed the ac-
tivities ol' each senior. As the book progressed,
the typists took over and prepared write-ups for
the printer. Then the editors and the art stall
spent long hours making the paste-up boards
which would be photographed for each page.
'l'hus the twenty'-fiftlr edition ol' the Llili-
ANON LOG became the largest in number ol
pages and circulation in the history' of the book.
Some of the 12th grade LOC, committee members, Sally
NfcCoy', Heather Marcus, Marion Nye, Sue Siegfried, and
joan bebhardt, are shown tallying senior polls.

Nw Rlmiii' RUUKCIKLK were our latorite precision
marchers.
The Mt. Lebanon High School marching
band, under the direction ol' Mr. Philip R,
Prutzman, again starred at football games. The
high-stepping Range Roelxettes combined with
the fancy-twirling 'Majorettes and the Band
made each half time a three-ring circus.
The entire band showed their talents through-
out the season in at variety of programs includ-
ing Hawaiian. Irish. and Latin Anierican shows.
Hashington and XN'estx'iew did their best to
overshadow our band but did not succeed. .X
highpoint was an appearance at the Pittsburgh
Steeler-l.os Angeles Ram lootball game whith
inznked the bands third coast to toast telexision
hookup.
'l'he annual Stadium Reine was gi sutcess. as
the grade school, the .Innior High. and Senior
High Bands were joined by the Pitt Band and
other marching, groups, Closing another season
the Junior and Senior High Bands presented
their Band Context on March 'ith in Mellon

As the curtain parted, the audience saw twenty-tour girls and
twenty-seven boys, sparkling with pride and radiant in eyery
color of the rainbow, who then began to give their interpreta-
tion of "Manhattan Towers." The morning of that same dayf
they had charmed the state P.T.A. with a similar performance.
Those who heard the Chorus, the only' mixed chorus of the
three, would not soon forget the mature, almost professional,
presentation that the skillful direction of Bliss May' Sneary' drew
forth. The audience saw and heard perfection. Had they' been
in room 308 on any school morning they would have seen this
same IOP choral group undergo a Dr. .Iekyl-Sir. Hyde transform-
ation. Giggles, squeals, and pranks would fill the room until
Miss Sneary stepped up to begin another day's rehearsal that
would lc-ad to another top-notch perlormanre.
