PRODUCTION SPORTS .... ...... A CTION BOARD OF Mr. Awalt Mr. S. Anderson Mr. C. Anderson The story of the school life of our Mountain View High School is the story of its cast - the students themselves. I am proud to be one of the directors of your studies and activities for this year, 1959. It is my hope that, as the years go by, these pages will bring back many happy memories of a construc- tive and rewarding year. A. Blaine Huntsman, Superintendent Dr. Huntsman Mr. Camp Mr. Christiansen Mr. Dethlefson DIRECTORS This week marks the premiere of the major pro- duction of the school year, the Class of '59. How successful this premiere will be has been the chief concern of the parents, the friends, the faculty, and the administration for four years. The factors con- tributing to the success or failure of this premiere are many. Each member of the cast must have a sensitiveness and concern for the welfare and hap- piness of all, and the entire cast must have a prep- aration that causes each to be self-sufficient and at ,qui 553 UOQ thelsame time capable of helping others. This Class 003, of 59 has had a very adequate training in prepar- A ing for a long successful run. LX A Os vt Nw Irval Carter l9 Mr. Carter ' X'x0Q'L: Principal VN XNQ, r- S wx x 2 'S Q -X. Q25 llllll llllllllllt Camera Shyl These four years at Mountain View High School have literally flown by for the Class of '59. From the happiest moments to the times we felt at a loss, we shall remember high school. Activity has filled our senior year: the Senior Variety Show - Beatnik '59 - which packed the auditorium, the busy nights of work preparing the senior float, and finally winning first place, the blast we had on the fun-filled senior snow- trip, the many nights of work to present our fabulous Senior Play, the wonderful time we had at the Senior Ball, and last but not least, graduation. High School, one of the principal steps in the stairway of life, has been sturdily built. We eagerly look upward to our goals at the top of this stairway with the hopes ofa successful and good life. Early in November we started making plans for our annual Football Home- coming. Marie Giovacchini was chosen Homecoming Queen for 1958. Our next big project was the Christmas Dance, which turned out to be a huge success featuring the theme, "Noel en Rouge." In mid-February we held our annual Beauty and Talent Show. Dawna Dishaw was chosen "Miss Mountain View High School," with the Blue Sharps taking first place in the talent division. In the spring we had our Mothers' Tea where the junior girls acted as host- esses, and the senior girls modeled clothes from various stores. We, the officers and committee heads, had a wonderful time participating in Girls' League this year. Carol Borene, President -i. GIRLS' STATE Last summer I spent one of the most memorable weeks of my life at California Girls' State in Sacramento, as a representative of Mountain View High School. This program is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. In one short week I gained invaluable knowledge of the workings of our state government and of my duties and privileges as an American citizen. I also had the opportunity to meet many girls that I will remember always. As I walked up the ramp at the San Francisco Airport, my family and friends were there to greet me. I think my family had read my happiness in my face. After that day, a happy, wonderful year started for me in my life. Like every other exchange student, I also had a big aim: to represent Turkey and the American Field Service and to learn much about America. In this very civilized country, I found new experiences and knowledge about American life. During this happy year my family and all the teachers and friends tried to give me information about everything that I wanted to learn and were very helpful in teaching me to speak English. The American people are very friendly, and I never at any time felt alone. I am returning to Turkey with new experiences, ideas and knowledge about America. I will always remember you and all these happy, wonder- ful days. Thank you very much, all of you, my teachers, my friends, my family and the American Field Service for this, my happy year. FOREIGN EXCHANGE Ali Kenan Kutlu John Nidecker Last summer, as a participant in the"American Field Service Exchange Student Program, I was able to live with a family in Germany and find out what the people of that country are like. During my whole stay with them, my German parents and my two brothers, Bernd and Jorg, helped me to feel that I was not just a guest, but actually a member of the family. It was through our close relationship and understanding that I learned much about the way of life of the German people. I found that the people, underneath the differences of language and customs, are very similar to us, I also observed that our country has a great influence in Germany. The people there respect and admire the U.S.A. and have a strong feeling of friendship toward us. I believe that part of that feeling of friendship was brought on by the American Field Service and similar organizations, and I hope that the AFS will continue to work for international peace and understanding in the years to come.
