Anderson Chester Awalt Reynolds Camp Peter Christiansen Ralph Dethlefson To the students of Mountain View High School It is a privilege for me to have a part in the education of the youth of our communities here in the Mountain View Union High School District. I sincerely hope the boys and girls in our high schools will realize the importance of getting the most out of every day they are in school, for these years pass very quickly, and all too soon these valuable years are gone, and we face life as adult citizens. My very best wishes to all of you. A. BLAINE HUNTSMAN Superintendent A. Blaine Huntsman Stanley Anderson ADMINISTRATION Most character references invariably include a question concerning loyalty. Loyalty is certainly considered desirable and even a virtue, but ditticult to define. History con- tains many records of extreme loyalty to an idea, to a person, to a cause. Loyalty in itself, however, is no virtue, only if loyalty is to something worthy can it be virtuous. IRVAL W. CARTEP Principal I Irval W. In addition to gaining invaluable experience in practical government, I also made lifelong friendships. I will always remember the wonderful women from the American Legion Auxiliary who made Girls' State such a great success. One of the most interesting highlights of this year's Girls' State was the flu epidemic, which affected most of us. I hope that this program will continue to be a great success for years to come, for it is of tremendous benefit to the girls, their schools, and their country. CAROLE KING -CAROLE KING BOYS' STATE Boys' State was one of my greatest experiences. It is a program set up by the American Legion which boys representing high schools from all over the state attend. They come together for ten days during the latter part of June at the Sacramento State Fair Grounds. Here they set up mock state X county, and city governments. We had great fun organizing variety and music shows, campaigning for yi. offices, playing athletics and making new friends. This, together with other numerous incidents, makes Boys' State a truly wonderful and unforgettable experience. Through it, not only was I able to learn more about the functions of the government, but I also became more aware of the duties and privileges as a citizen. -LANCE NAGAYAMA "Every drop of the seo has visited all the shores of the earth worn the seven-hued robe of light." Our faculty sponsors, Mr. Gilkey and Mr. Cooke, were a tremendous help. Together we planned our meetings, which included sport pro- grams, talks on guided missiles and space travel, and movies of World War Il. Also our organization was responsible for the huge success of the Annual Jazz Concert, which was one of our outside activities. The purpose and function of Boys' League, which includes all the Jr. and Sr. boys, is to create lasting friendships and better understanding among them. lt is my hope that through our planned academic and at the same time entertain- ing programs, - our goal was accomplished. Mr. Orr, our sponsor, has helped greatly in planning our meetings to appeal to many different interests. Individually the boys have different goals, but to- gether as a league we have one goal: to develop a strong bond of friendship. We sincerely hope that our programs, wnlch included sports, films, and discussions, have been successful in de- veloping this friendship now and in the years to come. Its purpose is to keep the students ot Mountain View High informed of what has or will happen. lt also acquaints them with other students by printing feature articles such as Personality of the Week, Rod of the Week, and the Sports Page. Most of the student body looks forward to each Friday's edition of the Eagle, in hopes at finding their name in print. The Eagle is written and edited entirely by the students. We would like to express our appreciation tor the help we have received from our adviser, Mrs. Flear. The students who worked on the Eagle know what a privilege and responsibility it is to put out a good newspaper. The staft put forth their best eftorts to make the Eagle a paper the students wanted, and we hope we have reached our goal. Christiane Mettler I must confess that before I came to your country I had all kinds of ideas about you and your ways of living. I thought of skyscrapers, gaudy lights, heavy traffic, and a cool atmosphere of modernistic technique. I thought teenagers were only interested in dating and Rock'n Roll. But when I came to America, I was pleasantly sur- prised. I found the people are like the Swiss. You act and think like we do. You received me with friendship and un- derstanding of my language problems and difficulties of adjusting to a new life. I felt at home from the very first day. You gave me such a wonderful time, making my America-stay a great success. Now after one year of living with you, having had all the tun, especially at the football games, I begin to know what America and its people are really like: it is a beautiful nation full of love and ideas. From my very first day in France, the French family accepted me warmly into the home as ci member of the family. It is this close family relationship which l will al- ways remember. The country is very old, rne streets are narrow and winding, the automobiles are smaller than ours, and the housewives shop in the open-air markets. lt all sounds very different from California, but, actually, the people are the same all around the world. I lived with a family iust north of Paris. My French father had his offices in Paris, and the sons went to school nearby. My French mother was a very good cook. There is nothing better than ci French cook cooking French food. I had four French brothers. The youngest, Nicolas, was only ive years old. His oldest brother was sixteen. Nicolas was very proud because he had been riding a bicycle for two years. It was this French hospitality which made me better understand and like the French people. We, the American Field Service students, think that it is through this exchange of ideas that we will finally achieve lasting world peace. Victor Black, Jr. 32 Victor Black GOLDEN RULERS BACK ROW: A. The many worthwhile activities we have enioyed as a class have helped us greatly in developing our talents and bringing out better our many interests. The Junior Carnival was one of the most enioyable functions we have shared. Adding to the Carnival the Junior Day and the Junior Prom, this has been an unforgettable year. Next year we will be wearing the title "Seniors," and hope that in following in the footsteps ot the past Senior Classes we can continue to uphold the tradition of good leadership. -Hortencia Robledo mn.
