View 8 This year ' s team features a strong pitching staff as three hurlers are returning to the mound: Albert DelValle, Bill Giroud, and George Laich. Adding depth to the retation will be former JV ' s Robert Hempel, also a fine first baseman, and Ed Maldonado. Defensively, the squad is strong where it counts, up the middle, with Marty Shubin and Antonio Raigosa at catchers, Steve Tillett and 2nd base, Troy Tillett at shortstop (perhaps the most gifted player on the team, Troy was 10 for 17 at the plate in pre -season, including 2 home runs and a triple), and Bill Gil in center field (Bill is the quickest player on the squad with an ex- tremely accurate throughing arm). Rounding off the starting lineup are Giroud and DelValle in the outfield and Jeff Short at 3rd base. The bench is also strong with Bobby Logan at 1st base and the outfield and Felix Almanza, a very reliable infielder.
