Frosh Basketball BACK ROW LEFT TO RIGHT. Coach Jim Dalton, Steve Paz, lose htw-wf - , David Maldonado, Alfred Floras, Armando Rodriguez, FRONT ROW. Richard De LaRosa, Freddie Ortiz (Capt), Jacko Romero, Carlos Ortiz, Gilbert Adame, NOT SHOWN: Mike Garcia, manager. The frosh basketball team, led by most valuable Alfred Flores, ended up the season with a 12 win, 11 loss overall, record. Their best moment of the year came early in the season as they won the consolation bracket of the Mark Keppel Frosh Basketball Tournament. The frosh soph basketball team, under coach Jim Contreras, came up short In many of their games, but made a good effort throughout the season. J. V. Basketball BACK ROW: Coach Art Harrington, Kelly Autrey, Mike London, Steve Davis, Freddie Valadez, Greg Garrison, Mike Folden, FRONT ROW: Ken Grund (manager), Joe Sanchez, Charlie Gil. Alan Kano, Mark Warm. The JV basketball team established a new school scoring record this year as they regis- tered 104 points against Mark Keppel. The team played very well throughout the season, averaging 64 points a game. Most Valuable Player Greg Garrison was the outstanding player for the team, averaging 12.5 points per game. With center Tim Coats directing the team effort, the Sophomore basketball squad won the consolation trophy at the Rosemead Sophomore Basketball Tournament. Coats, voted the most valuable player, averaged 11 points per game and was the team ' s leading rebounder. Overall, the team won 7 games on the season while losing 16. FIRST ROW (LEFT TO RIGHT) Rick Tackett, Camille Rodriguez, Ron Drelleshak, Debbie Moreau, Omar Arrula. Track Team Although lacking depth and overall strength, this year ' s VARSITY TRACK TEAM has several outstanding individuals which should make the team very competitive throughout the season. Return- ing league champions Ron Drelleshak (Varsity 120 low hurdles) and sophomore Everett Pacheco (Frosh Soph 880) will both be looking to repeat as champions in their events. As of early March, Pacheco had run the 880 in 2:01 and the mile in 4:32.6, both which are ex- cellent early season marks. Freshman sensation Mike Earnest, at presstime, had already cleared 13 ' 0 in the pole vault, which is a new school record, and he will be looking to better his personal best of 13 ' 6 . Both Pacheco and Earnest will probably compete in the Frosh Soph division for GIF competition. Also expected to contribute points will be distance runner Raymond Rodriguez, who will be running the mile and two -mile, sprinters Omar Arrula, Richard Flores, and Israel Martinez, and Weightman John Goodsell, who will be trying to break the school record in the shot put. 186 Coaches: Ted Martinez, James Contreras, Ralph Hernandez.
