Following an impressive 6-4 preseason. Mountain View Varsity round-ballers managed only three league wins to finish with a 9-15 record an the old cliche of several Bright spots, including the Norwalk Basketball Tournament Champions. Stars are known as Bright Spots, and Jackie Balderama was dazzling throughout the year as he sparkled with a 19 point per game average, A most Valuable player award in the Norwalk Tournament, and first team All League Honors. Center Ed Velasquez took team high honors with a school record 212 rebounds and also played superbly in the Norwalk Tournament, gaining all Tournament Recognition. Captain Carry Anson was the leading playmaker handing off 175 assists for the season with a game high of 13- both totals being new school records. Junior Jim Morris who had a high game of 14 points VS. Arroyo, Earl Frederiksen and Bob Hempel will be the only returners next seasons squad. Varsity 182

J. V. Basketball BACK ROW: Coach Art Harrington, Kelly Autrey, Mike London, Steve Davis, Freddie Valadez, Greg Garrison, Mike Folden, FRONT ROW: Ken Grund (manager), Joe Sanchez, Charlie Gil. Alan Kano, Mark Warm. The JV basketball team established a new school scoring record this year as they regis- tered 104 points against Mark Keppel. The team played very well throughout the season, averaging 64 points a game. Most Valuable Player Greg Garrison was the outstanding player for the team, averaging 12.5 points per game. With center Tim Coats directing the team effort, the Sophomore basketball squad won the consolation trophy at the Rosemead Sophomore Basketball Tournament. Coats, voted the most valuable player, averaged 11 points per game and was the team ' s leading rebounder. Overall, the team won 7 games on the season while losing 16.
