Champs The 1974 Junior Varsity football team became the second championship team in the short history of the school as they went unbeaten through the league. The team was defensively orientated as they recorded three shutouts and limitedtheir opponents to 44 points in 7 games. Linebacker Mark Warm topped the defensive unit as he led the team in both unassisted and assisted tackles. Defensive back Charlie Gil had 5 interceptions on the seaso n, one which sa ved a 6-0 v ictory over El Monte. Albert Vargas recorded the outstanding defensive effort of the year against Monrovia as he had 12 tackles and 8 assists. The Offensive unit was opportunistic, often using the big play to score. Running back Tom Gil was hB squad ' s leading rusher as he gained 574 yards on the ground. Steve | zaj Sam Cooley. The undermanned Sophomore Foot- ball Team ran into stiff opposition this year and were unable to finish the sea- son with a win. Led by co -captains Joe Reyes, quarterback, and Dirk Williamson, most valuable player, the sophs played several fine games. Line- man Tom Gorman was selected as the most improved player. The frosh gridders fared a little better as they finished the season with a four win, three loss record in league. Co -captains Gilbert Adame and Steve Paz provided the leadership for the team, with Mike Garcia leading the offensive game, gaining 339 yards running.
