View ' s most successful in the Mission Valley League as they finished the year in 4th place in league standings. The Vikings proved to be a competitive team and their spirit and determination were evidenced in their play. Two of Mtn. View ' s first 3 games were against teams which made the GIF playoffs. Victory eluded the Vikings until the fourth game when they upended Schurr, 13-7, as Mike Ruiz recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for the winning score. Hector Ruiz was the defensive standout, making 11 tackles. A big win for the team came against cross-town foe Arroyo, as Marty Shubin and Troy Tillett teamed up to score a touchdown on the first offensive play of the game, a 46-yard pass-run. The defense then took over, stopping the Knights twice inside the 10-yard line to preserve the shut- out. Tliis game marked the first Varsity football win for the Vikings over a district school. The last game of the season had to be the best, a 10-6 win over the Mark Keppel Aztecs. Bill Gil led the offensive attack, carrying the ball 25 times for 103 yards, setting a school record for rushing in one game. The offensive line, led by Mike Ruiz, John Quattrocchi and J.J. Guzman, did a superb job while the defense was sparked by the efforts of Bob Logan, Danny Chavez, Richard Espinoza, Omar Arrula and John Goodsell.
