This class started as freshmen, when the grass areas were still dirt, and Thor was still in diapers. Now the grass is green and Thor is pottie trained. This class has had far more spirit than any other class in the history of our school. Holding govern- mental offices and setting traditions are only a couple of accomplishments. I am sure every senior agrees. Mountain View will never see another class like theirs! Good-bye seniors. Stay healthy, wealthy, and wise and remember; We here at Mountain View love you! The Aegir Staff Senior Reflections Laughter, tears, hopes and fears. Were my four years at Mountain View. Loving care, hopes we shared. Were my four years at Mountain View. All my friends old and new, All the things we used to do. Will stay with me my whole life through, Memories of Mountain View. Written by Ingrid Kubiak My last four years have been basic foundations for my future. From my failures, I ' ve learned to get up and start over. When I succeeded I learned to stay humble. I overcame obsticles I thought were impossible. The experiences and my education since my last four years will always be there in the back of my mind, ready to call on when I want to remember. Through my experiences and my friends, they ' ve become a part of me. Written by Ed Potter •M tCj SBTOO ' PO ' R ' hlGS n O a f I f . Ana is from Brazil, Rio de fanerio. She said it is hard to be a foreign exchange student be- cause there are many different customs in America, the schools are different and the weather is cold to her. She writes, " We can ' t choose the classes each year. We take the classes that are gener- ally assigned; like Math, Portuguese, geogra- phy, history, English or French, P. E. scir- and art. In high school we have biology, ph and Quimic. We don ' t have the same classes every day, " Ana says that in Brazil, when you go out with a guy, you don ' t have to be his girl, you just go out to have fun and enjoy yourself. In Brazil, you go out at (9:00 and come home about 3 or 4 in the morning. ) So far Ana has enjoyed herself and she wants to say thank you to everybody, because you have all been great to her and made her ex- perience a very different one. 35 " Yeah Im good, who asked. The year started with seeing us having one meeting per month, but ending with two meetings per month. There were many things brought to our attention, but the ones of most importance were the ideas of a court sys- tem developing in this school. Also the thought of a mural painted in back of the gym to be seen and admired by all. We also had our second annual candy sale with success. But the last important thing, I enjoyed having and getting to know everyone at those meetings. They were a lot of terrific people. No, not just another book, but a very special book called the Aegir 1975. This book means more to a graduating seniors than it does to juniors, and so on down the line with the sophomores and freshmen, but it doesn ' t stop here. For three or four years the Aegir will sit on a book shelves or stacked away in a dark closet, relatively unnoticed -- then it suddenly become important. . . " Whatever happened to the student body president, whats he doing now? " . . . " What was the name of the star football player? " . . . " Is he the one I read about in the papers now? " . . . " and how can 1 get in touch with what ' s her name, the head cheerleader? " . . . " I wonder what looks like now, after all these years? " As the year pass, the 1975 edition of the Mountain View High School yearbook be- comes more precious, and a very valuable book. Renewing old memories of good times and of special friendship becomes a very meaningful thing. Yes, this is another year, but just not another book. This particular book you will want to cherish for life. Rex Welch Assistant Principal for Instruction. We are approaching the completion of our fourth year here at Mountain View High School and our first four year graduating class, the very first group of students to spend all four years of high school at Mountain View. I ' ll miss you students. It ' s been my pleasure to know you and work with you. I hope that all of you continue to put fourth a strong effort to improve yourselves and improve your place your community. As I leave Mountain View I will always have fond memories of working with the young people here. To coin a phrase " Thanks for the Memories. " You have really been great. I really appreciate the opportunity to grow with you. May God be with each of you always. y —N Your friend, Jack Cline Three of the happiest years 1 have spent as an educator were spent working with students from the South El Monte, El Monte areas while at El Monte High School. Now I have returned to this area and I find here at Mt. View High the same warmth and friendliness I had known in the past. I believe that Mt. View has within its student body the potential to be the best high school around and with the guidance and support of the community and staff, Mt. View will be at the top where we belong. Let ' s strive for that goal which can be a reality and prove to all that the Vikings are here to be noticed by their excellence and high achievements. Fernando R. Ledesma This seems to be the year that Mountain View has become of a ge. All of our athletic teams not only showed pride, they made believers of every school playing us. The girls became part of GIF and played five sports, while we added boy ' s soccer to our schedule. Our band, flashrankers and pep squads showed moments of brilliance and maturity. The commission began decorating the gym and commission room, while the House got its mural under way. We had our first foreign exchange student, Anna. The classes started their class flags, the M.V. was finally finished on the hillside by the Lettermen, and we added more bleachers to our growing Viking Stadium. Yes, this is a year of which we can be proud. According to Ms, Shammas, the best thing that happened to C, S, F, students, were the trips to the universities and the uni- versity football games. She thinks the requirements for CSF are too discriminating because a student with all A ' s may or may not qualify for C, S, F, Also, the fact that physical Education does not count is regressive, because physical Education is as academic as the instructor chooses to have it. Also Ms. Shammas does not anticipate any change in C.S.F. because it is a state organiza- tion and the school does not set the standards. When asked what student she thought was outstanding, she said that she couldn ' t choose just one individ- ual, because they are all exceptional people. After the fall semester she will relinquish the sponsorship of C.S.F. Ms, Shammas will miss the relation- ship with the students of C. S. F. but just as important, the students of C.S.F. will miss her. msl 152 The Second semester started off CSF with a new Spon- sor. Her name is Miss Patricia Duran. Miss Duran is the new sponsor of C. S. F. She wants to help those students that are planning on going to college, get information and hopefully provide the information to the students on Scholar- ships and the universities and colleges that offer them. C. S. F. was not advertised at her high school too much and she didn ' t really know about it. As sponsor she would like to take some field trips to various colleges give the students an opportunity to get to know colleges that they could possibly attend in the future. We ' ll miss Ms Shammas but we will get to know Miss Duran and like her just as much. A In its second year of operation, Mt. View ' s most successful in the Mission Valley League as they finished the year in 4th place in league standings. The Vikings proved to be a competitive team and their spirit and determination were evidenced in their play. Two of Mtn. View ' s first 3 games were against teams which made the GIF playoffs. Victory eluded the Vikings until the fourth game when they upended Schurr, 13-7, as Mike Ruiz recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for the winning score. Hector Ruiz was the defensive standout, making 11 tackles. A big win for the team came against cross-town foe Arroyo, as Marty Shubin and Troy Tillett teamed up to score a touchdown on the first offensive play of the game, a 46-yard pass-run. The defense then took over, stopping the Knights twice inside the 10-yard line to preserve the shut- out. Tliis game marked the first Varsity football win for the Vikings over a district school. The last game of the season had to be the best, a 10-6 win over the Mark Keppel Aztecs. Bill Gil led the offensive attack, carrying the ball 25 times for 103 yards, setting a school record for rushing in one game. The offensive line, led by Mike Ruiz, John Quattrocchi and J.J. Guzman, did a superb job while the defense was sparked by the efforts of Bob Logan, Danny Chavez, Richard Espinoza, Omar Arrula and John Goodsell. QB Marty Shubin had a fine year, as he finished the season completing 46% of his passes. Troy Tillett was his favorite receiver, ashepulledin 10 passes for 193 yards. Defensively, Bob Logan led the team with 103 tackles while defensive back Steve Tillett had 4 interceptions. 168 BACK ROW (LEFT TO RIGHT): _DanD: LjCiai£fiz, Ron Drelleshak, Julio Gutierrez, Bart Koybai, Hector Ruiz, Richard Espinoza, Ralph Adame, Robert Hempel, Bob Harp, Bill Guardado, MIDDLE ROW (LEFT TO RIGHT): Mike Ruiz, Daren WaUach, Brian Raymond, Marty Shubin, JJ Guzman, Omar Arrula, David Torrez, Dale Spencer, John Goodsell, Dave Carney.
