Little joined the El Monte Union High School District in 1949, serving first as a teacher of art at El Monte High School for three years, then chairman of tlie art department at Arroyo High School, and now yearbook advisor and art instructor specializing in ceramics at Mountain View High School. A graduate of Manual Arts High School, Mr. Little took college work at Kansas State College and George Pepperdine University where he received his bachelor degree and post-graduate work in the major field of fine arts, specializing in ceramics and painting, with minors in Social Science and Education. In 1955 when he took on the task of establishing the art department at Arroyo High School , he was re- sponsible for pioneering many courses of study and served as department chairman for fifteen years. In addition to his work in a art, Mr. Little has taught navigation and geographical studies and helped set up a navigation and recon- naissance training program while in the United States Air Force at Waco, Texas. In all of his twenty-five professional teaching years, Mr. Little has demonstrated a strong concern for people and their welfare. In this respect he has always found time to give extra attention to others, whether i t be in sponsoring student groups, such as the Christian Crusaders and Art Clubs at Arroyo, or by boosting professional standards through service as Vice President of the District Teacher ' s Association. It is in gratitude for the skillful work, concern, and human sensitivity shown toward students and staff members alike, that this 1974 AEGIR is dedicated to Mr. Walter C. D R. D A V I D A. B E R R Y 86 Dr. David A. Berry Principal Can it be possible that Mountain View High School is graduating it ' s first full four year Senior class? My, how quickly the time has passed since these walls were being erected and the great Viking Ship launched into the main stream of public school life. This year ' s graduating class will always hold a unique place in our memories, for it was this group of seniors who, as freshmen housed on other campuses, chose the colors, se- lected the mascot, set up the first student government, and made many other very wise and commendable decisions. The satisfaction in knowing that you participated in the pioneering work of creating a new comprehensive high school will, I ' m sure, become and increasing satisfaction during the years to come. Everyone has worked hard to produce another outstanding year. Your wonderful cooperation and friendliness is a genuine inspiration to all. Certainly, I want to commend the Aegir staff under the direction of Mr. Walter Little, for their tireless efforts in producing this beautiful book as a lasting record and memory. God has been good to us all! Without a doubt, you, the students, staff members, and friends of Mountain View High School stand among my richest blessings. and Assistant Principals Mr. Rex Welch Asst. Although Mrs. Irwin has worked with us for just two and a half years, we will remember her for many more years to come. One soon recognized, after meeting her the loyalty she expressed to and the pride she held for everyone here at Moun- tain View. Her work always exemplified the best she could give to those around her. And so, to you, Mrs. Irwin, we say, " thank you " , for many things and wish you lots of hap- piness in your retirement years. Sincerely, The Students and Faculty of Mtn . Born: August 11, 1929 Passed Away: July 28, 1973 IN MEMORIAL TO MR. JOHN WESLEY LEE John Wesley Lee was a big man. He stood tall as _ . , , ,, , , _ paid attention to an orderly progression of meaningful pursuits; a man who prepared himself for eager service to his family, his creator, his community, and to himself. He was a great planner; he never left important developments to chance. John was much more than a skillfull technician and mechanic; he was an engineer of human relation- ships as well . He paid particular attention to the personal needs of students and teachers in his depart- ment, and was continuously relating those needs to the communities he served. People were after all, his greatest concern. John could reach the reluctant youth; he could overlook the temporary objectional symptoms in favor of the positive good that could result from virtually any situation. He had unusual vision for the potential achievement of others, as well as himself. He believed that EVERY PERSON could be REACHED and MOTIVATED TO REACH UP and TO DO his best, if the right approach could be found and applied. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Aegir Staff and Editors in making this book a success , Our generation is a time where ideas are traded and opinions clash, to produce eternal truths. We are a generation wide open to the bitter-sweet smell of success and failure. And we are constantly in the search to find ourselves. We are these people, by this hard work you have produced our 1974 edition of the Aegir. I hope that when you look back in the years you think of all the good times you had. I would like to give my special thanks to Mr. Little for all his patience and time in this book, and also I would like to thank Mr. Wigton for all his time in taking pictures for us. We couldn ' t have done this book without them . Thanks Again ! Deana Clark Editor • 174 , i 7X . A ydt l( o ' 9 c- 5 Ct. i;: -: ' 0 O -.. - - . 7 ' : ■ ' .. 9, i 1.
