Her unfailing cooperation and cheery helpfulness have been felt by every individual in this school tor as long as we can remember. In token of our apprecia- tion, we of the class of 1951 affectionately dedicate our yearbook to you. Miss Dunn, for your inestimable worth to us and to the Mountain Lakes High School. 4 PPRECIATICN For you, Miss Callaway, we, the class of 1951, feel our deepest gratitude-not because you are our class advisor but be- cause you are such a wonderful one. You have spurred us on in all our activities. easing us out of this difficult situation. guiding us over that one, and constantly giving your all to help us in countless ways. You've really been tops, Miss Calla- way, and we hope you know how sincere- ly we mean, "Thanks for everything, and we're surely going to miss you." MISS ANNE MCMAN US MISS HELEN BLANCHARD Six years ago when the Class of 1951 first entered Mt. Lakes High School. we were lost and lonely seventh-graders with a deep need for some kind and under- standing hand to guide us through our most difficult years here and help us change from gangling youngsters to mature and capable high school students. This need was so completely fulfilled by Miss Anne McManus, our class advisor for the first three years. that we have still not forgotten all she did for us. and we now wish to thank her for the wonderful way she did it. ixtqggsaff. i gf lt is hard to express in words the deep feeling we all have for Miss Helen Blan- chard. advisor of the yearbook. It is more than just gratitude and appreciation. some- thing bigger and broader. to be felt but not written. Thus, when reading this, Miss Blanchard. think not of the words on the paper, but the feeling behind them. and remember that ln the future. when we, the staff of the 51 Lakes, look over this remembrance. we will think not only of our high school days in general. but of you and the times we had with you when putting together "our" book. At least a six- syllable word is indicated. Certainly a short para- graph will not suffice to recite the excellencies of these Seniors. Teachers in the elementary school still talk about them-- in a nice way. The high school staff, though departmentalized in its efforts and pos- sibly in its viewpoint, would agree, I am sure, 'io place 1951 high on the list ol our graduating groups. May I add my personal appreciation of the friend- ships of these thirteen years in the Mountain Lakes schools. Let us keep them in repair! EARLE w. ANIBAL ---""' Superv s g Prmc pal iin ' i Q. QILASS OF '52 Atter three very active years in Mountain Lakes High School, the members oi the Class oi 1952 are looking forward to assuming their responsibilities as Seniors. A large number ot our class has appeared con- sistently on the Honor Roll, and we have had excellent representation in S,G.A., Service Club, A Cappella Choir, and many other activities. Also the members ol our class have done extremely well in both boys' and girls' sports. During the past year we have added considerably to our treasury by sponsoring several dances, selling refreshments at athletic events, and selling stationery. We have also always done well in the magazine campaigns. With Miss Vincent as our advisor and every mem, ber co-operating, the Class ot 1952 is anticipating an outstanding Senior year. We, the Iuniors, take this opportunity to say farewell to the present Seniors and extend to them our wishes for a happy and successful iuture. Our first noteworthy social event, the Sopho- more Hop, was a huqe success because of the line cooperation and spirit ol the class and the help ot our advisor, Mrs. Emma Brocklebanlc. We look forward with pleasure to our two remaining years in M.L.H.S. This year our class has been lortunate in havinq many new members, who came to us from other schools. Out- standing was the magazine campaign where our suc- cess was marked by our having many members in the Thirty Dollar Club. Also, at gridiron, basketball. and diamond contests. we thrilled as we watched our members play. We especially remember the Fresh- man Frolic, with Iane du Quesnay as general chair- man, for it was such a huge success, despite the handicap of our inexperience. Thus our freshman year closes. and we have gained much in both knowledge and experience. Nancy Williams First row: Mitchell, Schuster, Walters, N. Williams, Thom- as. Moulton, Steer. A. tickets receive special reductions for school affairs sponsored by the S. G. A. The entire student body chooses officers and every chartered group is entitled to represen- tation at the meetings. A student may express ideas or complaints to the council through his homeroom representative. The S. G. A. Council acts as the co-ordi- nating body of the extra-curricular activities by the chartering of clubs and classes, and by the scheduling of school assemblies. Other S. G. A. activities include the sponsorship of the noon hour program and the proportioning ot the Council funds among the various school organizations. Since our school is a member of the New Iersey Association of Student Councils, dele- gates were sent to the Rutgers conference in order to learn new methods of improving our school. Service Club mem- bers also sell and collect tickets at athletic contests. Under the capable guidance of Miss Marion Vincent the large group of sophomores, juniors, and seniors have served the school loyally and well. The Iunior Service Club under the excellent supervision of Miss Anne McManus has been a very helpful group for the past four years. The members have been responsible for main- taining order among the students during fifth period lunch in the cafeteria and halls. The club was divided into three teams under the following captains: Evelyn MacCallum, Nancy Williams, and Dick Powell. Under the able direc- tion of Mrs. Mildred Thompson, the club members learn how to shelve books, file cards, compile statistics, and perform various other useful jobs. The organiza- tion not only performs a vital ser- vice to the school, but its members enjoy chatty and stimulating meetings. 4 UHE OUNTAINEER This year the Mountaineer staff assisted by its capable advisor, Mrs. Maureen Vanderbilt, has published six outstanding editions of the school paper. New layouts were tried by the editors, and more creative work by the staff was included in the newspaper. Through various activities, funds were raised to allow more photography and cartoon work than has been used in previous years. 'B ASKETBALL The Lakers opened the basketball season with a well-earned victory over a strong quintet from Sus- sex. In the next two games the Orange and Blue really proved they had what it takes as they posted easy wins over Delbarton and Rockaway. After dropping a hard-fought game to a powerful Boonton team, the Lakers took to the road and handi- ly defeated Bayley-Ellard, one of the strongest teams contending for the Smaller Schools Conference championship. Mt. Lakes's hope of winning the Conference crown was shattered by their losing two "nip and tuck" games to Netcong. The Lakers dropped the first game by a single point and the second by only two points.
