Finally, when all had assembled they slowly and nervously made their way up past the familiar first flight on up to the second floor to make their debut into high school on that 6th day of September, in the year of our Lord, 1945. Through the aid of kindly and sympathetic old- timers they were shown to those 'Frosh' desks on the west side of the assembly hall. The bell rang and these Greenies were started on their way up. The place is the open- air ballroom on the roof of M.H.S., erected especi- a11y.for school parties. Tonight happens to be one of those Wexciting' school parties, but this one is special because it's a reunion of the class of '47. Now they have a change in music---the faculty took over! Oh, well, a three piece orchestra is just as good. as any other. We find Miss Ninmann beating out on the bass fiddle and Mrs. Murphy as a trombonist. The third musician is Mr. Murphy who is busy on a jewish harp and slips in a vocal number now and then. As I walk around each table interviewing each of the graduates of '47 I find at my first attempt. Arriving at the top and walking into the as- sembly hall we seated ourselves at the farthest end of it. Looking over to the other side ofthe room we visualize ourselves, the seniors of 1950, seated in those very same desks four years from now. The first day when the bells rang to pass to classes, we sat in our seats and stared stupidly a- round. Then s whisper traveled up and down the aisle, 'Where do we go from here?' Our class started out with eleven members, but a few weeks after school started Iucille Iarson, one of our classmates, had to leave because her mo- ther and sister were sick Soon after this Ameli a Champagne entered our class to take the place of Lucille In the months that followed, several parties were held and we freshmen attended all First of all came a welcome party given for us by the Junior class It was a big success Then came the initiation party What a shock especially for the freshmen Mr Janusz and Mari lu know"' There sure were some queer contraptions running around in the daytime Our Yvonne Williams could have surely won first prize She was dress ed in a get up composed of diapers silk stockings high heeled shoes, and two dish towels Shirley Rohe would have won second prize She was dressed in army underwear, stuffed with paper The sign on r back read 'little Bo Peep has lost her shape N And Vernon Anderson of all tnings was 'Prisoner of love The seniors sure showed their great genius by thinking up those queer costumes At night another unusual thing happened M and Mrs Murphy were racing around school on roller skates About a week before Christmas two new students were added to the freshman class They were Virgi nia Choynacki and Dexter Andrews transferred from Pulaski is fi x .- yaf? 1 ' A 5 V714 XR x wr ff? 7 or' X 5,6 . , '- n ' A . - A Xu . . . . - ' ' '. . On this day the doors of all the classrooms were opened to them so they might get an idea of the activities in which they would participate if they decided to enter high school. Within them were the hopes for a higher educa- tion and it was up to the freshmen to prove to them that it was worth their while to continue school. This has been the first year that such a day has been set aside so these students might have the opportunity to see of what their high school days would consist. , ' Having arrived, they were greeted by the fresh- men who took them into the mainroom to their citiz enship class which was held the first period Here they heard foreign and domestic problems being dis cussed by the class Before long the bell had rung and the class was dismissed Now they were taken into the libra ry in which they spent the next period viewing the books periodicals and magazines The next period being science they adgourned to the science room where they spent an interesting hour listening to the various factors concerning the world in which we live At noon they were taken down to the cookhg room where they partook of a delicious lunch congu red by Hrs Frost While the girls attended home economics class the boys went to a typing class which was made up of two freshmen boys English class probably the one dreaded by most of them was held the period following dinner Though they were studying grammar the class proved to be interesting and not at all unamusing This being Tuesday and also the day for the weekly movie, the 20 students were guestsat the mat inee Hoping that this day was a success and that the 20 students will be with us next year for edu cation carry on' tl' I X55 ' 4' .., X" T5 .
