And the once warm blood ran clotted upon the shield. He whispered words of pain and loneliness of life. Felt the fatal cuts of saturated knife. Groaned in the pool of unending defeat. He knew with death soon he would meet. Slowly he opened his bleak eyes Looked upward in mournful cries. Prayed hopeful dreams of will; But with peace lay still. At last he screamed With what seemed A song Gone. Vincent amaro Veracious scrutinies taken at oneself conveys the thoughts of Existence ' s iris. but in this reflection; the Surreality of abstraction is evanescent a tear. scott sokol 30 The moon has many phases my dear. And with each We change and bend according to the Air — Emotions are fragile at this time, yet joyous Nature we enjoy and Serenity is a Tranquilizer for our minds. We analyze our surroundings and relationships. Fire — Turbulent tidings come with this phase Impetuously we judge and Jealousy rules our lives yet Passion overcomes us all — Water — Sensitivity is at its height yet the sting of revenge can poison the soul. Romance is stilling and the air is sweet with loving words. I am but a small speck among humanity. Although we are individuals we all are a part of the whole But not all of us are treated the same. Why God, we all are dots And we all compose the world Maybe someday people will put us together And treat us all as people! debbie kussner Earth — Cruelty and stability is dominant now as we see Reality. Dreamily caught up in a stagnant world. We probe the stark truth and eagerly await the Air to rescue our emotions. With each day we change — The moon rules emotions Sometimes realistically Usually dreamily Diana is the shell by which we use to hide from the World. She brings us deep love, and superficial moments — for she has two faces. On Leaves Red, yellow, orange, brown Effervescently falling — Rainbow Avenue Wax Gooly construction Colors of orange and black Sometimes it whistles lynn head Stephanie hardin 31 ■■ ' ' " ' - " ;» 32 Junior Class Officers (left to right): Genie Ray, Secretary; Debbie John- son, Treasurer; Mary Glen Phillippi, Activities Chairman; Andy Black, President; Lynn Head, Vice President. It sings in the hearts of innocent children, Blind to the swampy lands outside their doors — Unaware of the rats in their cellar. It bathes silence in silky water. Cleansing a troubled mind. Filling hearts with joy. It screams through smoke-filled rooms And auditoriums (with policemen) And speaks that which cannot be spoken on chalk-filled boards It ' s there if you listen, but silent if your mind is closed. It is a tune sung deep in the forest It lives by flowing streams, and high mountain tops. The sanity of a universe rests in its velvet hands Unspoiled by axle grease It is my soul. I know now . . . It was too hot in church with all the windows closed They made me stand too long and I fainted. He told me to close my eyes and open my hands And he ' d give me a big surprise. It was round and smooth that ' s all I know cause then my Dad blew a fuse trying to fix the toaster and we sat in the dark telling stories. Under the lead- ership of Coach Jarman, the team did better than It has done before. They ran against tougher opponents, and participated in more difficult meets such as Calloway Gardens, and in a four school meet in Mobile. The main factor in the team ' s improvement was the matured atti- tude of the runners. Morning work- )uts became the rule, rather than the sxception, and running afternoons became a contest instead of an obli- gation. They had hoped to win the state meet, but with the amount of sickness and the number of injuries, the SPARTANS fell short of their goal.
