COMMAND MASTER CHIEF GSCM(SW) BARRY L. HEMPHILL A native of Walhalla, South Carolina. Master Chief Hemphill enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January of 1 977 as an undesignated fireman. After completing Boot Camp at Orlando, FL. His first duty station was the USS BOULDER (LST- 1 190) in Little Creek. VA. Attaining the rank of Engineman Second Class. GSCM(SW) Hemphill took advantage of the Navy ' s conversion opportunities and converted to GSM (Gas Turbine System, Mechanic ) in 1 98 1 where he put his new expertise to work on USS DEYO (DD-989) and USS JOHN ROGERS (DD-983). After completing his sea tour, GSCM(SW) Hemphill became an instructor at the Gas Turbine Systems C School located in Great Lakes. IL. Returning to sea duty in 1986 GSCM(SW) Hemphill was selected for the Pre-commissioning crew of the USS ANTIETAM (CG-54) where he served until February 1 990 at which time he was assigned to USS JOHN A. MOORE (FFG- 19). GSCM(SW) Hemphill was assigned to Engineering Department and also assumed the duties as the Command Master Chief. Attaining the rank of Senior Chief he completed his sea tour and transferred to shore duty at SIMA (Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity) San Diego. CA and assumed duties as the Shop Master of Onsite Calibration Lab. Upon his selection to Master Chief Petty Officer he assumed the duties as Administrative Departmental Master Chief and TQL Coordinator. Returning to sea duty he reported onboard USS OLDENDORF (DD-972) as Engineering Department Master Chief. After his selection in the Command Master Chief Program he was assigned to USS LEWIS B. PULLER (FFG-23) as the Command Master Chief in August 1997. Upon decommissioning he reported onboard USS MOUNT VERNON (LSD-39) as the Command Master Chiefin September 1998. GSCM(SW) Hemphill ' s personal awards include the Navy and Maiine Coips Commendation Medal(with I star), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with one star), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Battle Efficiency Ribbon (with 4 stars). Sea Service Ribbon (with four stars). Naval Reserve Sea Service, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal (with 4 stiu ' s), and the Enlisted Surface Warfaie Pin.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER LCDR CHRISTIAN H. HANSEN Lieutenant Commander Hansen is a native of San Francisco. California. He attended New Mexico Tech, and graduated in 1 985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. He later attended Officer Candidate School in Newport. Rhode Island and was commissioned in September of 1986. Lieutenant Commander Hansen ' s at-sea assignments include Gunnery Officer and Combat Intorniation Center Officer on USS RACINE (LST- 11 91 ); First Lieutenant on USS FORT FISHER ( LSD-4()): and First Lieutenant on USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD-6). Lieutenant Commander Hansen has served ashore as Training Support at Naval Reserve Readiness Command. Minneapolis. Minnesota and as Executive Officer at Naval Reserve Readiness Center. Spokane. Washington. He attended the Naval War College. Newport. Rhode Island, where he earned a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. Personal aw ards include the Na y Commendation Medal ( w ilh three stius) and the Navy and .Marine Corps Achie ement Medal.
