MAINTAINED: ... A word which implies a certain standard which is to be up- held. It is no secret that the USS MOUNT VERNON is older than many of the sailors and officers who walk her decks each day. Nor is it a secret that in recent years, MOUNT VERNON was considered incapable of getting underway safely. It is with a special sense of pride, then, that her crew works to preserve MOUNT VERNON ' s now reliable main propulsion machinery, her decks, her electronic equipment, and her damage control equipment, to name only a few. All of the ships in the NEW ORLEANS Amphibious Ready Group were constantly put to the test during WESTPAC ' 95. Be- cause her crew took pride in their ship and in keeping with her high standards, MOUNT VERNON always proved to be up to the challenge.
