For the first time in the history of Mount Vernon High School the football team played an out of state game This game was played at Culver Military Academy at Culver, Indiana. Here the band and the football team become part of the big occasion of leaving for Culver. Twelve 'Y Before Chrnstmas vacatlon teachers and students alike closed theur books and enloyed the Christmas season After an appropriate Christmas assembly most of the classes enloyed games and refreshments gifts were exchanged and studies forgotten Th rtee No matter what time of the year, there was always a dance. Here we find the very familiar sight of a dance held in the old gym. When the lights became softer and the music sweeter, often one forgot that this was only a gym. Fourlee After a very successful football season our cholce of sports turned from the grndlron to the gym and basketballs The swlsh of basktballs varmshed wood ushered unto the wlnter months a new means of engoyment Fnlteen falling through nets and the squeak of rubber soled tennis shoes on Every year the music department presents several concerts The concert above picture shows the orchestra tuning up just before the final spring Every year the juniors have charge of the next-to-last issue of the "Jacket Journal." They write the articles, make the "dummy," and take full charge. Here the fourth period iournalism students of Miss Sara Cannon are inserting "Rotos" into the "Journals" under the supervision of the new editors, Zale Smilack and Susan Minnich, standing in the back row. Se enteen The final socual event of the year for seniors was the semor prom at the Country Club The swlsh of pastel formals accompamed the good muslc as the class of 1957 waltzed Into the mldmght hour The dance was followed by a mght club party at the K of P hall then a quick change unto blue leans for a long hayrlde and back to the hall for sux o clock breakfast E ghl PLAYS Mrs Ruth Truxall adds the Hmshmg 'fouches To Mary K Eastman s make up as Farry May In the Sensor Class Play The Curnous Savage N . . , - ' - an . 11 - I l Mrs Howard V Larue Ill Carrie Sybil Evva Lewis Maude Lewis Grace Lewis Nelson Boy lHowayl Chef lEllsworthl Vlrgnl cene Scene Scene Scene Scene Mrs McThmg Play In Two Acts by Mary Chase Alumm Audltorlum Friday Evenmg, November lo 1956 THE CAST Marybeth Grlflllan Lols Ewalt Carlena Ayers Susan Mlnnlch Judy Frady Joan Knnnard Keith Lewis Wrlllam Bell Peter Mavromates Alan Falrchlld Dnrty Joe Stnnker Poison Eddie Schellenbach Mrs Schellenbach Mlm: Flrst Polrceman Second Polrceman lUgly Witch T Mrs MC hmg lBeautlful Witch SYNOPSIS OF SCENES AC I Mormng Room Larue Towers late afternoon of a summer day The Shantyland Pool Hall Lunchroom about an hour later Same as Scene 2 a few minutes later AC ll The Shantyland Pool Hall Lunchroom a few days later Larue Towers later that night Richard Kymer Duck Simmons Arthur Graves Janet Klem Mary Jean Ball Terry Tucker Lewis Sleeman Diane Daily Shrrley Rardln 10' All High School Play Durector Stage Manager Stage Crew Property Commuttee Tlckets Head Usher PRODUCTION STAFF Ruth Domugan Truxall Blll Tanner Jlm Kumble Milton Outcalt Harry Love Gregory Chester Larry VanRsper Tom Corcoran Bob Moore Dan Wagner Sally Harris Janice Fletcher Elaine Shut? I ' i , F , , I I I I I I ' I I I I ' ' These Never Lost A Game Champions' Success Hard work and great spirit carried the "Fighting Yellow Jackets" of 1956 to the most successful football campaign in the school's history. Possibly the finest coach- ing stat? ever to tutor a Yellow Jacket eleven rounded the gridders into top- notch shape early in the season and kept them at this peak for the entire campaign. Head coach, Ben Wilson, completing his second year as Jacket mentor, was as- sisted this year by Rex Jarvis, Charles Stanley, Jack Murphy, Jack Wilson, and Houston Schlosser. The Mounts relied on a crushing ground game to roll over nine opponents and completed the season unbeaten and untied. Terrific blocking, flawless fundamentals, and great team play helped the Jackets. Opening fast, the Yellow Jackets ripped the veteran Coshocton Redskins 14-0 be- fore 3,000 fans on September 14. Full- back Roger Thompson highlighted the aftair as he scored twice on runs of 67 and 38 yards. Gaining revenge for a 31-12 setback in 1955, the locals took victory number two as they nipped the rugged Rams of Mansfield Madison 26-25. The game was close all the way and was not decided until the final two minutes when the Wilsonmen pushed across their fourth touchdown. Defending Central Buckeye League champion, Grandview, was the next Jacket victim, falling by the wayside 40-13. This was the first CBL victory of the year for the Mounts. The following week the Golden Bears of Upper Arlington absorbed their first defeat from a Jacket eleven at home in eight years. The score was 41-7 and it was victory number four for Mount Vernon. The Jackets' next two victories were important stepping-stones toward the Cen- tral Buckeye League Crown. The locals mauled hopeless Delaware 39-O and then crushed powerful Bexley 33-12 before 5,000 screaming Homecoming fans. ln a drizzling rain that continued throughout the contest the Wilson-men clinched Mount Vernon's first Central Buckeye League Football Championship since 1948 by chasing Urbana's Hill- Climbers 40-6. Wooster's Generals closed out the Jackets' home schedule as they submitted to the locals 18-6. The following week the "Fighting Yellow Jackets" put the icing on the cake as they traveled to Culver Military Academy in Indiana. The Cadets, big and well- coached, became the ninth and final Yel- low Jacket victim 33-19. Thus the prodigies of Ben Wilson wrote a new page into the history of Mount Vernon High School. The First Unbeaten, Untied Football Team in the History of Mount Vernon High School. That's the title that they earned and no one de- serves it more than The "Fighting Yellow Jackets of 1956." We've led the fashion world a long way from that day in 1869 when Well-bustled ladies stormed our opening doors to see the latest in embroideries and shirtwaists. Right from that day, fashion was our aim. Over the years, working in the markets of the nation, we have launched important fashions in every field until today. Fashion's look to the people of Knox County has become the Ringwalt Look. Not limited to apparel, the Ringwalt Look has become the look of fashion and quality in Hne home furnishings, in exciting gifts, in childrens wear, in fine linens and fabrics . . . in everything that signihes the finest in taste. In this year and every year you'll find the Ringwalt Look at its best throughout our store. Six busy floors are radiant with an aura of freshness and welcome . . . reflecting our dedication to the imagination and ideals behind the Ringwalt Look. When you visit us today, you will lie greeted with the same friendly ser- vice that has come to be our mark of identification through the years . . . service that will continue through the many generations yet to come. gem, J.
