Spirit Week was a time when every- one was involved in various ac- tivities. vui- The assembly provided out- standing entertainment, and the traditional crowning of a new Queen. At the Homecom- ing game Rainier Fans watched in awe as the Rams ravaged the Royals. The dance wrapped up the occasion in a special way. Homecoming 1980 ... A tradi- tion we'll not soon forget. Rainier this year. ln fact, they dealt with every kind of paper from poster aper to. . .toilet paper. The girls made the run through signs for the footbaff games, hung locker posters for encouragement, and met the Rams up at the school to congratulate them on their many victories. The girls also rovided weekly ifts to the team which included everything from "good lucl2" notes and Candi bars to Playboy maga- zines lfully clothed, of coursell The main attempt of the squad was to boost the athletes moral and from the outcome of the seasons, they seemed to have accomplished that! And we're proud to say that they have done an outstanding job! Film Society began as a small club with a few people interested in film making and has grown to a club of over thirty members. The MR Film Society's main goal was to promote school spirit through the creativity of films, while having a lot of fun at the same time. With that in mind, Film Society has made one large motion picture-"High School Drifter." It consisted of actors and actresses of all kinds, and the music was spe- cially written by members of the Film Society. Overall, Film Society had a great year, and is planning an even better one next year! The group, in fact, was not established until a month before summer vacation. At first the idea was scoffed saying it would never get off the ground before school ended. But thanks to people like Yvonne Ingalls, who helped organize tryouts and Mrs. Craig who volunteered to be our advisor and the girls who put in hours of practice, the group was established and became a popular success. The team is a perfect example that hopes and "Dreams," Can excerpt from Mrs. Craig's famous speechlj can become reality with a little work and a lot of dedication. With only one returning cheerleader, the young squad struggled throught the barriors of summer and finished with flying colors. After the squad was elected, they spent a long spring and summer preparing routines that were performed throughout the year. During the summer, the Ram squad attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg for a cheerleading camp. There, the staff learned many techniques that helped them with their demanding job. Though tired and weary, Mt. Rainier returned home with five Superior ribbons and one excellent. August 2nd was yet another important date - the Des Moines Waterland Parade. Again, the staff pulled together and performed quite well. Overall, the whole year was a success. The dedication and devotion expressed through each member helped contribute a "touch of class" towards our school, Mt. Rainier. From the Senior cheers staff members, "We've shared many happy moments together and we shall never forget our accomplishments. ln times to come, we hope that this experience will bring back fulfilling memories. OFFICERS 1 1 .., ,. ." .gn , . -,s I' 0 5 ' -iii Operation Christmas was a very successful project for Honor Society this year. The large contribution of over 365 toys and 4600 cans of food to the Des Moines Food Bank was stimulated by homeroom competitions--some which resulted in providing parties, punch and cookies, and even preparing breakfasts. - 1. The speeches covered topics ranging from social problems such as, incest and drug in Rock and Roll to Oral Interpretations on Winnie the Pooh. While you're still snuggy snug in your bed on some frosty, perhaps rainy, even snowy morning, chances are that the everfearless Mountain Club, led by the dauntless figure of Mr. Ron Abramson, are out in the elements. Their mission is to conquer nature in all her forms. This year their delights were as bizarre as: snowshoeing in the cold, climbing rocky cliffs, and searching for each other in the Cascade Mountains. There is a lot of laughs in the company of these eccentric mountaineers. This year's club member included: Jennie Lathrop, Rusty Pepin, Troy Monson, Tom johnson, Sue LaBounty, George jones, Dan Hansen, Mr. Abramson's mother, Doris, and Mr. Abramson's daughter Britt, Gary Yurina, and lanice Brinkerhoff.
