The main objective of this organization, the Senior Chamber of Com- merce, is to raise adequate funds in order to purchase up-to-date equip- ment tor the business training department. In addition to holding a variety of fund-raising programs, the annual dance and skating party have always been successful-socially and finan- cially. At the end of each school term, a Spring Banquet is held in honor of the senior members. i4 Junior Chamber of Commerce Z Row IV, Left to Right-L. Uhrin, M. Yanuck, M. Poole, M. Cosner, C. Clawson, J. At Hurst the commercial students are able to keep up in their studies of modern day business under the excellent guidance of Mrs. Janes, the sponsor of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. The nature ot the organization is to aid the commercial students in their study at business through many lectures and demonstrations given by vari- ous speakers. Aside from this they also have an opportunity to develop their social interests by attending dances, skating parties, and finally the banquet held in the spring. As an added project, they help to supply the workraom with the best equipment possible. 15 Sportsmen Club Row Lef o I t :rms ne :vu env c ere cnw v Nov J Grc no T Sou-ers tous! O 9 O The gold pin and the armband, which tea- ture the Keystone of the society, are badges of distinction among the students of Hurst. They signify members of the National Honor Society, which thrives under the capable co-direction of Miss Myers and Miss Fisher. Each spring a stir- ring ceremony is held in which new members are inducted. This inspiring ritual, heightened in beauty by a background of ferns, palms, and Candelabra, serves as an incentive to the entire student body. Members are not chosen on schol- astic achievement alone, but on the tour prin- cipal obiectives and ideals: Character, Scholar- ship, Leadership, and Service. As a final remem- brance ot school, the society awards a scholar- ship to a deserving member who is extending his education. Sigma Rho The Sigma Rho is an honor society of high school students who have had the ability and the courage to complete four years of mathematics successfully. The purpose of this club is to pro- mote interest in mathematics in all of its various uses among the students of Hurst. This club has succeeded through the tireless eFforts of Mr. Nock who has been its sponsor since the Hurst Chapter was founded eighteen years ago. Congratulations are warmly ex- tended to him for this wonderful achievement. Rowlll, Left to Right-B. Bauer, Solo, J. Blaine, D. Christner. terson, P. Baird, K. Patterson. J530 K Rowl-R. Kline, S. One of the most prominent and progressive extra-curricular ac- tivities open to incoming high school students is the band, which is under the capable direction of Mr. Avampato. ln addition to its performance at football games, the band partici- pates in pep rallies, concerts, and varied assemblies. Competing for county and district honors has always been the main objective of the band. Selected participants represent our school annually at county band, and at the end of the school term, an award is presented to the outstanding senior male and female musician. 25 ,.
