PLEASANT! This school year began very much The same as o T h e r school years. Oh yes, we noTiced a Te w changes such as some new Taces among The TaculTy and sTudenT body, inTermiTTenT homeroom periods, really organized assemblies in our compleTely comple-Ted audiTorium, and soon we began To hear some Tallc abouT evaluaTion. BuT somehow, we never quiTe ThoughT This would be one of The really mosT ouTsTanding years in MT. PleasanT's hisTory. Well, iT really Turned ouT To be quiTe a year! Our Green KnighTs noT only won The Blue l-len Conference buT also wenT undeTeaTed. The senior play, Our Town, was a decided Triumph, and among oTher Things, we survived The evaluaTion. To recall This memorable year Tor our readers, The Green Leaf has recorded a seasonal accounT of iT so ThaT you will discover why This was a year To remember! OUR MAN OF THE YEAR DEDICATION I96O af Mounf Pleasanf will cerfainly be a year fo remember. We were so proud of our foofball feam when fhey won fhe Blue l-len Conference Championship and had The firsf undefeafed foofball season in our school's hisfory. The players affribufed The greafesf parf of fheir success fo our new head coach. l-lis policy, like Theodore Roose- velf's "fo speak soffly buf carry a big sfick," insfilled in fhe feam a quief confidence and made everyone aware of a new kind of school spirif-"an inner feeling of vicfory which had a dynamic effect" I-le is nof only a fine coach buf also a dedicafed feacher. Lasf year he served as presidenf of The Delaware Sfafe Educa- fion Associafion and is head of fhe social sfudies deparfmenf af Mounf Pleasanf. Those of us who were in his American hisfory classes enioyed his humorous anecdofes and commenfs on such subiecfs as "life in Lap- land" and "reindeer can be fun!" l-lis espe- cially keen insighf info America's foreign affairs has given us a deeper knowledge and undersfanding of fhe hisfory of our counfry. We appreciafe fhe special inferesf he fook in us and his friendly suggesfions when we asked his advice. As one of our Junior Class Advisers, he worked very hard fo make sure fhaf we re- ceived our class rings wifh as liffle confusion as possible. l-le gave unfailing supporf and assisfance fo all of our class acfivifies. Because you have done so much fo make our high school careers more meaningful, more enioyable, and more successful. we, fhe Class of l96O, fake pride in dedicafing fhe I96O Green Leaf fo you, Mr. Wayne J. We sponsored The "Sno-Shu" dance on December 6 and The memorable "HearT Gallery" dance given on February 7. They were boTh social and financial successes. On March ll, l2, and I3 occurred one of The highlighTs of The year, "Annie GeT Your Gun." We were proud To have Carol LaTimore represenf our class by being chosen The A.F.S. sTudenT To spend The summer in Holland. Tension ran high during The STudenT Council elecfion, and afTer much compeTiTive campaigning, Bob Warner, Bernie BeiTman, Trudy Ware, and David Morris were elecfed. Also wiTh The coming of spring came class Trips and The exciTemenT of receiving our long-awaifed class rings. For our Junior Prom in May, The gym was decoraTed wiTh Spanish moss, fish neTs, sea shells, and even a liTTle grass shack. The music and floor show followed along wiTh This Theme.
