ln Retrospect September, 1945-May, 1946 Our freshman year-the last step of our junior high climb . . . our bewilderment at the mysteries of Latin and algebra . . . the pride we felt at being the oldest students at the junior high dances . . . the fun we had at our own ninth grade party . . . our class cer- tainly was well-represented at the band dog- gie roast that year! . . . that certain Christmas party that lingered in our minds for months afterward . . . the memorable science trip to Philadelphia-the Planetarium, Museum of Natural History, and especially the hilarious bus ride home . . . after the dismissal bell at 3:45, we could be found at our favorite meet- ing-place, the playground . . . the snowstorm which reached near-blizzard proportions and kept us out of school for almost a week . . . the Freshman Frolic as our first real dance- how much like senior high students we felt. dancing there in the old gym . . . our eager- ness to begin our life as upperclassmen and our wonderful memories of our by-gone fresh- man year as we left for the summer vaca- tion in May. September, 1946-May, 1947 Senior high at last! . . . we were installed in Miss Greisemer's and Mr. Wentzel's home- rooms-few of us will forget the fun we had there . . . the ridiculous way we Y-Teens looked on the day of our informal initiation and the antics we performed at the command ot the seniors . . . the feeling of pride we had at the impressive candle-light service which marked our formal initiation into that group . . . the chosen few who made the I. V.'s that year-how we cheered for them at all the games! . . . biology students learned to look at a dissected earthworm without shuddering. and most of us struggled through All Gaul is divided into three parts quite successfully . . . hardly a week went by without a gala party-that Hallowe'en affair was one that will long be remembered . . . memories of our first Y-Teen Christmas formal still linger in our minds . . . on the scholastic side, our American history course kept us all on our toes . . . our first big senior high dance-the Soph Hop . . . and this time we had not merely records, but the Indianola Trio, and the gym resembled a flower-strewn garden . . . the last time we met as a class before receiv- ing the newscomers from Pennside and Exeter was the occasion of our class dinner at Reeser's . . . our sophomore year, a never-to- be-forgotten nine months was at an end . . . we looked forward eagerly to becoming juniors the next year. September, 1947-May 1948 Back at school with only two years of high school remaining . . . how many of us couldn't wait to be seniors! . . . the newcomers from Exeter and Pennside soon became as familiar to us as the people we'd always gone to school with . , , our first dance as juniors with blue jeans and corn shocks playing a big part in the theme . . . plane geometry and chemistry soon had us digging in . . . that exciting December day when we became the proud owners of those long-desired class rings and the way we kept them conspicuously in sight for days . . . our first spirited Color Day . . . those new blue and white class hats which we wanted to wear twenty-four hours a day . . . next on the agenda was the success- ful play, Kitty Kearney from Killarny . . . who of those in the cast will soon forget the hilarious rehearsals and the celebration at the West Reading Hotel afterward! . . . April brought the Junior Prom-our first dance in the auditorium with a real orchestra supplying the music . . . theme of the dance was the 49'ers and decorations were our class colors. blue and white . . . successful Student Council Bundle Day and Y-Teen rummage sale . . . baseball games and track meets at the brand- new, wonderful athletic field . . . with final exams over, we said good-by to our grand junior year and eagerly awaited our first days as lofty seniors! September, 1948-May, 1949 Seniors-the goal for which we'd striven for three years, and how many of us could be- lieve that we'd finally achieved it! . . . the five-hour long I-'iremen's Parade with our band making a grand appearance . . . the successful production, Little Women, the re- sult of weeks of practice . . . the way the cast became separated when they went out after- ward . . . those German 11 classes and lm- mensee . . . our final basketball season at Mt. Penn High-how we cheered for all our fellows on the varsity those Friday nights! . . . dances after the games with our senior musicians forming the backbone of the dance band . . . relaxing at Eck's after school . . . the last Y-Teen formal at the Abraham Lin- coln Hotel . . . our championship teams-the girls winning the Suburban League Trophy, the I. V.'s capturing top place in the county. and our varsity winning second place in the league . . . Penn Alma work replacing that of the Penn Post in the second semester . . . the Color Day assembly, featuring Daisy Mae and L'il Abner . . . Club Iceberg, the theme of our grand Mid-Winter Prom . . . those co-ed volleyball games . . . spring, track, baseball, and the Y-Teen Bunny Hop . . . proud band members making their first appearance in the new uniforms at the spring concert . . . our superb class trip to Annapolis . . . our last social event in high school-the long-awaited Senior Prom at the Reading Country Club . . . solemn Baccalaureate services . . . the cul- mination of all our hopes and dreams-Com- mencement . . . the sad and wonderful feeling we had, marching up for our diplomas . . . the ache in our throats as we sang for the last time as a class the Alma Mater . . . members, at last, of the Alumni, with memories of four wonderful years at Mt. Penn High that can never, never be forgotten,
