When we look over the pages of history and study the illustrious characters who have made the world better by their useful lives, we see the persistence which characterized their efforts. They did not despair when they met their first obstacle, nor the second or third, but they pressed on in spite of difficulties and of sneers of some of their contemporaries, never losing faith in themselves or in their ability to accomplish their purposes. They finally earned the fruits of their labors, the reward for their efforts. This was the experience of Columbus, of Washington, of Lincoln, of Cyrus W. Field, of Bell, of Edison and many others. May you ever strive for the good, seek the truth, never yield to the wrong, and dedicate yourselves to the service of your fellow man, as these great men did, and you will earn the respect, the admiration, and the gratitude of your fellows and the world will be better because you are living in it. 19 3 7
