For your love and understanding of high school students, your fundamental and con- temporary knowledge of books, and your burning desire to guide and inspire, we respectfully dedicate this page to you, one of our master teachers. In this tribute we are fully cognizant of the priceless contributions you and the teachers have rendered in our current American heritage, and joyfully and gratefully commit ourselves in these words of praise for your composite of excellence reflected in love, knowledge, vision, and inspiration. And in conclusion we want you to share with us the beautiful thought in the words of Guiterman: NO PRINTED PAGE NOR SPOKEN PLEA MAY TEACH YOUNG HEARTS WHAT MEN SHOULD BE NOT ALL THE BOOKS ON ALL THE SHELVES BUT WHAT THE TEACHERS ARE THEMSELVES. QI. lguhlir S9111 November l, 1957 Senior Class of 1957 Mount Olive High School Mount Olive, North Carolina Seniors--on May 27, 1957, yOu will reach a very significant point on your earthly pilgrimage of life, which began with the dawn of early childhood and will terminate with the darkening shadows of the inevitable night. The first part of this journey has been replete with many days of happiness, study, and general preparation for the days of the unpredictable future. And, in these years, your mothers, dads, and teachers have patiently and rayerfully striven to help you mold a blueprint of action and philosophy of life with the primary view that you will be condi- tioned and qualified for the multitude of complex and puzzling problems ahead. In the inevitable evolution of problematic events I urge you not to deviate or detour from this noble heritage, but to strive diligently and endlessly to perpetuate this inherited trust of a marvelous beginning by Clh Seeking to serve rather than be served, by'f2J Striving to give rather than to get, and, by'I3Q Subscribing to the eternal verity of a happy and successful life - that you make a living by what you get - but that you make a life by what you give, My association with each of you, Seniors, has been a happy oneg and, in my fondest dreams and prayers, I shall hope that these schoolday associations of the past will flower beautifully and will grow abundantly into an adulthood where you will be outstand- ingly successful in your chosen profession and dearly loved and respected in the community in which you make your life. God Bless You and Good Luck to you, Seniors ways be our boys and girls. , for you will al- Sincerel J. A. Batson, Principal Mount Olive, N. C. Perhaps, the most tedious job of all was that of our proofreaders. lris and Ronald. Marlene did a marvelous job of selling annuals and increased our circulation a great deal over last year's. Betty Lou had a grand time taking snapshots, but then she didn't enjoy her job a bit more than we did. Gs 3 Rf f C CLASS HISTORY , A A 'In September 1953 eighty-nine confused freshmen entered the doors of Mount Olive High School ,toybegin their high school careers. This step' meant more than just another grade in school for'us'. It meant changing classes, .working out schedules, learning to be on time, and most 'of all it meant that we were now full fledged members of the Mount Olive High School A' Student Body. Our slate of officers for that year were Tommy Clifton, Presidentg Charles Bell, Vice Presidentg and Jackie Coker, secretary and treasurer. ' . VWe entered OU! SBCOHCI' year aulittlebetter acquainted with the rules of high school and what wasexpectedof us. Our class had decreased to sixty-one by this time. This year we had our first money-making project. The receipts from our Christmas' Dance made us feel rich and proud of ourselves. Our officers for that year were president. Charles Bellg vice president, Tommy Cliftong secretary, Virginia Marting treasurer, Rex Whitfield. As our third year began, it 'brought much work as well as fun. That year we had a job to dog we had to give a Junior-Senior Prom. Making money was our main interest, so we had a Barbecue Supper, a Christmas Dance, and gave our annual Junior Play. All these things proved very successful as well as a lot of fun, .for everyone had a good time and worked hard at the same time. How proud we were on April 29 when we gave our Junior-Senior! Its theme was "Hitch yourpwagon to a Star, " and it was carried out beautifully. Our leaders that year were Virginia Martin, presidentg Dave Wilson, vice presidentg Stuart Patten, secretary, and Anne Ricks, treasurer. - . Now we had reached our last year. With forty-nine members in the class we began our Senior year. Dave Wilson was chosen President: Donald Lindsay, vice presidentg Betty Lou Kennedy, secretaryg and Minnie Mae Britt, treasurer. This was a busy year. It included the publication of our annual, our class rings. the Senior Play, the Junior-Senior, and finally ourcaps and gowns. This year we were the ones going to Washington instead of watching the bus leave. We published the VI volume of the "MOHI." We held the places of honor all over school. for' we were Seniors. We gave a most successful Senior Play, "The Hoodoo." This year Pat Johnson represented Mount Olive High School in the Miss American Legion contest in Warsaw. At the Junior-Senior we were the guests and held the places of honor. Now on May 26 'as we "stand in our 'caps and gownsg ready to receive our diplomas we take with us memo- ries that we shall cherish forever and leave behind the happiest and the best years of our lives. , ' 1 Sue Williams: Historian PROPHECY R It has been ten years now, and while preparing for my summer vacation, 'I decided to return to'fMount,'Olivefj.'. in hopes of seeing many of my fellow graduates of 1957.
