. FOREWORD The U.s.s. MOUNT MCKINLEY, Flagship of Commander Amphibious Group Four, weighed anchor and departed Saipan on the 16th of September 1945 to play a major part in the occupation of the japanese Homeland. On the morning of the 22nd of September the 'Mighty Mac' dropped anchor at Sasebo, Kyushu, japan. ,Vice Admiral Kosa Abe, Rear Admiral Keichi Ishii, Captain Takahashi, Major General Yoichi Koho and Major Negoro of the japanese Army and Navy reported aboard and complied with the surrender terms of Rear Admiral Reifsnider. On the 27th of September the 'Mighty Mac' set sail for Wakayama, Honshu, japan and on the 29th of September she anchored in Wakanoura Wan, off Wakayama. On the 4th of October, the U.S-S. MOUNT MCKINLEY assumed ifS duties as F1a2ShiP for Commander Amphibious Forces, Western japan Area, departing on the same day to supervise the landing of occupation troops in the Kure Area, and anchoring off Hiro Wan on the 6th day of October. Vice Admiral Kanazawa, Rear Admiral Yamaki, Captain Konoe, and Interpreter Ino reported aboard for a conference with Rear Admiral Reifsnider and complied with the surrender terms concerning Kure Naval Base. The 'Mighty Mac' then departed for the Tokyo Area on the 31st of October and anchored in Yokohama Harbor on the 2nd of November. On the 17th of November 1945, the 'Mighty Mac' weighed anchor and departed the Tokyo Area for the West Coast via Pearl Harbor to join the Magic Carpet Fleet.
