Thorsen is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy who began his career as an enlisted man in 1958. He is a highly qualified Anti Submarine Warfare officer and a graduate of the Naval Post- Graduate School. LCDR Thorsen came to the MOUNT HOOD from the ASW school at San Diego in April of 1977.

DQCUTIVK LIEUTENANT COMMANDER STEVEN M. MONDUL, USN FORMER EXECUTIVE OFFICER Lieutenant Commander Steven M. Mondul was relieved as Executive Officer of MOUNT HOOD in April, 1977. Heibegan his naval career as a graduate of the NROTC program of Miami University of Ohio, where he was commissioned an Ensign in 1964. He has served in the Mediterranean area, in Hawaii and in the Western Pacific aboard destroyers and service ships. He participated in the Foreign Exchange Duty program as a member of the staff of the Commamder of the Canadian Maritime Command. He is married and has two children.
