She has taken a General Course. JOHN TENNANT-John started at Mt. Gil- ead in the first grade. Big John has shown his skill in athletics by four years of football and three years of basketball, and has been an M-Club member for three years. He has taken a General Course. CHARLES EGGLETON-Charles came here in the last part of his Jr. year from Witthrow High School, Cincinnati. He was a member of Scholarship teams, and on Mizpah Staff his Sr. year. He has taken a College Prep. Course. MARY PHYLLIS JONES-Mary Phil came into our class in our Jr. year, coming from East High School in Columbus. Mary Phil has been in Y-Teens four years, Y-Teen V. Pres. in 9-A, Y-Teen Treas. in 9-B, and was elected attendant to the Football Queen her Senior year. She has taken a College Prep. Course. MARGARET SHEEHE-Maggie came here in the eighth grade from Galion. Maggie has been a member of Choir three years, FHA four years, District FHA Pres. Sr. year, Vice Pres. FHA Jr. year, Sec. MARSHALL PHILLIPS-Marshall came to Mt. Gilead School from Colton, California in the third grade. Guinea has been in Choir four years, Band two years, Hi-Y three years, H-Y Pres. Sr. year, was in the Jr. Class Play M-Club one year, was Editor of the Mizpah and played football four years and basketball two years. He has taken a College Prep. Course. She was in a Glee Club and Mixed Chorus her Fresh. year, and a Jr. Choir her Soph. year, has been a member of Y-Teens two years, Gong Staff and Mizpah Staff Sr. year. She took a General Course. HAROLD PHILLIPS-Harold started in Mt. Gilead School in the first grade. He has been in Choir three years, FFA one year, Mizpah Staff, M-Club four years, and has played football four years. She worked in the after- noon during her Sr. year. She has taken a Commercial Course. ROBERT BRADEN-Bob is one of our return- ed veterans. Beecher started at Mt. Gilead School in the first grade. He left in 1944 for the Army, and then returned and joined our class in 1947. He has been in Hi-Y three years, M-Club three years, M-Club Pres. Sr. year, Jr. Class Play in 1943, played football three years, basketball three years. He has taken a General Course. ROBERTA GEYER- Bert started here in the first grade. Bert has been in Y-Teens three years, FHA four years, FHA Historian Jr. year, Jr. Class Play, and was on Mizpah Staff. She has taken a General Course. JOHN SHADE-John started to Mt. Gilead in the first grade. Shadyl' went to the Army in 1944, and returned in 1946, joining our class in 1947. He has taken a General Course. CARROLL IRONS-Carroll came to Mt. Gil- ead from Galion about the middle of her first year. She left here and went to Virginia for her fifth year, and came back for her sixth year. She must have traveled enough by then, because she has stayed here ever since. She has been a member of FHA, Y- Teens, Y-Teen Pres. her Senior year, member of Gong Staff her Jr. and Sr. years, Mizpah Staff, Jr. Class Play. She has taken a Com- mercial Course. CURTIS RHODES-Curt joined our class in the ninth grade. Curt has been in FFA three years, and was on the Mizpah Staff. He has taken a General Course. ELAINE PINYERD-Elaine has been with our class for twelve years. She has been in Choir three years, Band four years, Y-Teens three years, FHA one year, and was on Miz- pah Staff. She has taken a College Prep. Course. ALVIN IRONS-Alvin came here in the fifth grade from Williamsport and then went to Springfield for twelve weeks of his Sr. year. Al has been in Hi-Y three years, FFA one year, M-Club one year, and played football two years. He has taken an Academic Course. HAZEL HACK-Hazel came to Mt. Gilead School in the third grade and left in the fourth. She then came back in the fifth. She has been a member of Y-Teens two years, FHA four years, Jr. Class Play and Scholar- ship teams. The national organization formerly known as the Girl Reserves has changed its name this year to the Y-Teensf The Mt. Gilead Y-Teens took in nineteen new 'members at informal and formal initiations. This brought the total membership to forty-nine. Nine of our local members attended a District Y-Teen Meeting at Dela- ware in November. For the second consecutive year the club has compiled and distributed pocket folders containing the seasons basketball schedule. The club presented the annual Christmas Assembly and co-operated with the Y-Teens in presenting the Thanksgiving assembly. The club included two social events on its calendar during the current year. They were: A Hi-Y, Y-Teen party and a Spring Dance. The group was active in the State and District Hi-Y Fellowship. Mar- shall Phillips was secretary of District 9. Mt. Gilead was represented at Camp Nelson Dodd, the Hi-Y Camp, and at all State and District Con- ferences. i-II-' 36 The F.H.A. started the school year by electing officers. Pauline Nesbitt was elected presidentg Eloise Shipman, vice presidentg Barbara Foster, secretaryg Ann Benton, treasurerg and Loretta Foster, reporter and historian. The F.H.A. sponsored a Halloween party for the F.F.A. October twenty-ninth. Games were played and refreshments were served. On January fourteenth, the F.H.A. girls went to Fredricktown to the annual F.H.A. District Convention. Mt. Gilead had the largest group of F.H.A. members. Each school contributed some- thing to' the program. The election of officers was held for the District. Margaret Sheehe was elect- ed the new District President. Refreshments were served. Beard, took part in several county, district, and state activities this year, in which awards were taken each time. The parliamentary procedure team won a plaque and gold award for first place in the district contest. Gene Foster, Jesse West, Gene Lust, Frank Phillips, Howard Gompf, Hugh Whrel, Gaines Rinehart, James Miller, Harry Wil- liams, and Bill LaRoach make up the team. A plaque and bronze award were Won by the members in the State Chapter Contest for our scrap book. Several members were initiated for Greenhand degree in November. A county ping-pong tournament will be held in March, a parent and son ban- quet in April, and elections of new officers in May. For June the boys have planned a swimming party. Gilead Indians were a little more fortunate in the 46 football season. The team worked hard the whole season and scored in every game but two. The Indians had their former coach baek, Robert Blose, who coached in 1943, and was called to the armed forces. Most of the boys were new to the coach. The team was light, but had the fight and the spirit for the entire season. There were scarcely any injuries this season and replacements were fairly good. The team won two, tied one, and lost six. The possibilities for a successful season next year look good, with several experi- enced men and eleven lettermen returning. They won 4 and lost 17. One highlight of the season was defeating St. Marys on our floor 34 to 29 dropping them from a tie, at first place in the Mid-state league. The team has fought hard, and the fight- ing spirit of the backers of our team was a great help. The fight and enthusiasm of the cheer leaders were greatly appreciated. Another great help was the band playing at the pep meetings.
