I've waited for twelve years to sit in this chair; waiting for them to call my name, hand me my diploma, and shake my hand for good luck. I don't know if I dare look around at all the kids I've known so well these past years. The times we’ve shared - both good and bad - have helped me to grow so much. And when 1 think of all the new friends I've made this year -I'm so glad I got to know them. What will I do without the security of school and the swirl of activities? It’s sad to think that I may never see some of these kids ever again. It was such a good feeling to be so close to each other, makes saying good-bye all the don’t like to say good-bye, I’d rather say hello. Maybe that’s why when they call my name I won't say, bye school," instead I’ll say, life!"King Jay Soule and Queen Julie Hyytinen THE ROYAL COURT 132QjMi'l)i't(f Coronation was emceed by Sue Shaughncssy and Frank Dickson. But I must tell you that this year was one of the most wonderful I've ever had in my life. First of all, it was a year of knowledge, a year of happiness. A year which I learned how to love, how to cry, how to smile, how to give the little I have inside of me as a human being, as a Brasilian, and the most important - as an AFS'er. I want to thank the nice people that I met here and helped me when I needed it. If someday you will go to my country, I’ll be glad to have you - as all Brasilians will be. Love, j iir f'C i.O a My days are almost Over with. In my Heart your spirit will live. All my life I'll remember: White as peace, red as power. A King of love that was really new. So, once more I can yell - MOHAWKS, I really love you! 166One day, a year ago in May, I got a letter - I was going to the U. S. A. In August it was time to say good-bye When we to America were going to fly. And of course, home was hard to leave: I wiped the tears off my face with my sleeve. But soon my tears were dried. See, you can't go away and hide When you are supposed to act mature -And all A.F.S. students do, for sure! And so, a new country, new friends, a new school. There were many times when I felt like a fool Not knowing where to go. how to act, what to say -Oh, there were many a day When I wrote my friends back home a letter Longing for times when things looked better. And then again, I have learned so much For instance: that friendliness, if only the slightest touch -A word or two, a smile -Can make this stay seem worthwhile. So far, this has been a marvelous year, And I want to say now, while 1 am here, To all the teachers, students, faculty And all the other people I see: Many thanks for all you have done for me! 167Collette Goslin . . . It was a lot of work, but I think it’s worth it. This book is very special tc me - I have put my best into it. I just hope my best was enough. I'm sure there are errors especially spelling! But this book wouldn't be as good if it were perfect. I want to thanli everyone that helped - by typing, talking to people, alphabetizing, donating pictures, oi just trying to calm me down on a ’deadline day.’ I want to give special thanks to Jody Let for all her time and effort put into the pictures in this book. But most of all I want to thanl Mr. Muth - for his patience, for respecting my judgement, and his understanding. I hopt you can look through this book and find that it brings back memories of glad and sad times -times you don’t want to ever forget. May it be a book that you can sit down with on a rain; day and look through ’til the sun shines again. Love, 176
