Mother Mary Regina, R.S.M., Mother Provincial of the Sisters of Merqf in the Province of Chicago. ,Adm hi fm! 2714 Sister Mary Genevieve, R.S.M. Registrar YY Dear Students: To enable a school like ours to contribute to your education, many people must collaborate, many forces must work harmoniously. Every faculty member, every auxiliary worker, every student is important. The pages of this most recent McA11limz reflect the unity which exists on several levels- curriculum, faculty effort, student participation. The spirit of mutual assistance was necessary to produce the McAz1lia1z itself. Congratulations on your excellent interpretation of your Scl1ool's spirit. Congratulations too on a cooperative effort carried to a successful conclusion. Sister Mary lgnace, R.S.M. Principal Sister Mary Barbara Sister Mary Leontine Sister Mary Maristella Sister Mary Rosaleen Through the four-year course in Critical Analysis the McAuley stu- dent learns to make and to ap- preciate a. complete work of liberal art, one in which every detail is fitted together to contribute to a single purpose, namely, to make clear to the reader or listener the central truth which is to be com- municated. Mrs. james McMahon, Sister Mary Viola Not Pictured: Mrs. F. P. Conlon, Miss Dolores Ferraro Zzculfy Hammunirafivn Sister Mary Januarius and Sister Mary Lucetta These Sisters, both former Supervisors of the elementary schools of the Sisters of Mercy in the Chicago Province. teach a course in developmental reading. In this class the stu- dents aim to improve their vocabulary, speed of reading, and comprehension in order that they may advance more rapidly in the other subjects. The second language is a practical extension of the Critical Analysis program. Here the student develops and exercises those skills of reading, writing, and understanding. Sister Mary Emile. Latin Sister Mary justitia. Spanish Mrs. Charles Stiles. French Sister Mary I-Iildegnrde fNot Picturedj. French fl Teachers of Natural Science I, Man in His World, Sister Mary Elaine, Sister john-Marie fNot Shownj Sfaculfy Each student at Mother McAuley is required to take two years of a highly integrated course in Natural Science. Our science courses hold an important place in our curriculum. This particular subject is of special importance because our knowl- edge of the world and of human nature is the basis of everything we think and do, and of all human progress. Teachers of Natural Science 11, Mrs. Con- way, Miss Jacqueline LaBash Just as the ancient people Valued mathematics so highly, it still is of great value to us: It is a necessary exercise and an important instrument of other sciences. Sister Mary john Francis, Sister Mary Kenneth, Sister Mary Bede, Sister Marella fNot Shownj In our study of the physical sciences, we come to a clearer understanding of matter, its causes, and its effects. We also learn the "why" of ordinary every- day things such as electricity and airplanes. Sister Mary Columba and Sister Virginia Marie fNot Shownj Miss joy Unger Sister Mary Georgia library Sister Mary Noel supervises the circulation of more than 5,000 books, an average of 1,200 books per month. Film strips and slides can be obtained for any of our classes' to give us a more complete understanding of the subject. Sister has also instigated E1 music hour after school during which classical records are played. Sister Mary Noel Physical .Sducafizm Miss Nearhoff provides a well-organized program in physical education to insure the physical as well as the intellectual development of McAuleyites. Miss Nearhoff asia! fiance Our guide in living is out- lined in the social sciences. Mother McAuley. provides courses in American History, American Problems, a n d World History, to prepare her students for their future as American citizens. lVIis5 Gnlligan, W Sister Lawrence, Miss Watson l Sister Mary Augusta, Miss Mauch, Sister Mary Irena, and Miss Blocker. Here they are pictured recording their voices. Here the Seniors practice the art of make-up. Once they have perfected this talent, it will be no trick at all to appear as a school girl or to age quickly and become a middle-aged matron. Members of the Drama club understand the importance of diction, To im- prove this quality, they practice with a. lighted candle. The success of a play depends not only on the actors, but also on those who work be- hind the scenes, Members of the stage and make-up crew offer congratulations to the Director, Mrs. Conlon. y Hhrisfmas Zflay I As part of the Christmas program the Drama Club presented "Amahl and the Night Visi- tors," by Gian Carlo Menetti. The story is about a crippled boy, who is miraculously cured of his affliction through the offering of his crutch to the Christ Child. Patricia Scott, Barbara Vanek, and Julie McGrenera enact a dramatic scene from the production. -il' saw ' m is l T, A ,.,.
