On this occasion, his Excellency, Bishop Crifliths, delivered a soul-stirring address in which he said: "How Mother Cabrini loved this Country! Time and again. the words of Pope Leo XIII came back to her ears: 'America-a glorious new country-a land of freedom and opportunity., How many times she reminded her dearly beloved Italian immigrants of that. And they have been worthy of her example of loy alty to Cod and America. Sixty-three years ago Mother Calvrini walked through the doors of St. l'atrit-kts Cathedral-a homeless immigrant, but not a disillusioned displaced person, because she had lfaith. she had conndence in Divine Providence. Tonight she is a Lady in bronze emblazoned with a golden halo on the very door of that Cathedral which she entered humbly as an immigrant six decades ago. lt is the miracle of Faith. At this instant Frant-es Mnkowslti is the happy recipient of the st-lmol ring. Uur Ring Ceremon A great hush fell over the entire assem- blage as we slowly filed into the chapel to the strains of organ music. As we walked down the aisle with what we hoped was a stately step, I could hear sighs and exclama- tions of "How lieautifullw and "Aren't they lovelylv, and out of the corner of my eye I saw that photographers were present to im- mortalize, as it were, the happy occasion. Indeed, we must have made a pretty pie- ture: the seniors in their immaculate caps and gowns. experiencing a forestate of their graduation night and we, the Juniors. in our uniforms to which our white caps and gloves and the white carnations lent a les- tive air. ln his sermon Father liayerty told llw of the great significance the rings hore and urged us to rememher always the Christian virtues and ideals they symbolized. The entire high school stu- dent body Went to visit the Religious Voca- tion Exhibit sponsored by Fordham Uni- versity. There we found l33 different re- ligious orders displaying their spirit and their activities. Among all the beautiful dem- onstrations was the booth erected by our Faculty, characterized by the precision of its art work and colorful scheme. Being Cabrinites we liked ours the best. especially because the Sacred Heart of ,lesus domi- nated the scene. Even though many of us felt we had no vocation for the religious life, we left the exhibit with feelings of great admiration for convent life, and a resolu- tion to pray daily that Cod might send more laborers into His vineyard, especially to the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart whose 11eed for co-workers indeed is great. Of all the alumnae, the girls we are the proudest of, are those who have answered the Nlastclis Call and are today Brides of Christ. MUSIC HA TH CHARMS Singing has long been considered one of the most popular activities of the school. Morning classes open with a prayer and a hymn, chapel services are enriched with hymns efficiently accompanied by our organist, Mother Stella Maris. Assemblies, receptions, plays, parties, and all memorable occasions such as Initiation Day, Ring Night, May Day, and Graduation are all marked by scintillating music-the result of many hours spent in rehearsals and voice training. From our repertoire, the songs we best love to sing are: Handel's "Hallelujah,', Counod,s and Schubert's "Ave Maria", Victor Herbert,s songs from Wfhe Red Millv, and Romberg's HGolden Daysf' Myrna Pagan won a medal at the Feis held at Fordham University for her rendition of an aria from 4'La Boheme." AdaBelle Smith won distinction for composing the music for a new mission song. Both Myrna and AdaBelle have put Cabrini High on the air by their splendid rendition of popular songs on radio and television. 29 J is s 1 H . 6 5: .Am -4 .ki X l '--M., f ...f :ag , A 1 llluslglgllls My Y I . ,- 1" wjz, E , 'WM ,r f Q Aw 3 4, ,Ag .JF 3, r . ff, ,f ,. This feeling of confidence is unquestionably born from our past triumphs. As winners of three trophies, the record speaks for itself. But we are proud of this accomplishment in the intramural games only because it brings that certain indescribable smile of satisfaction in our dear Mother Ursulals face, the brightness in her eyes because her Seniors had won.
