WORK BEFORE PLAY M.T.f'f.S, literally buzzes with ac- tivity throughout each year. The sea- sons of the year determine the kinds of activities to be expected. At Christ- mas time, Student Council members purchased and decorated a large Christmas tree, which was erected in the main hall. The tree Was very beau- tiful, and expressed the feeling of the Yuletide season. In the spring of the year, the annual Student Council election of officers was held. A Week of vigorous campaigning brought into being a great number of posters, which advertised each candi- date for office. The posters could be found in every imaginable place in the building. Speeches were the last vote-gettersf' and the election fol- lowed. Many posters covered the walls during the vigorous cum- BECRME -OUR MOTTO pulgns by candidates for the offices oi Student Council. Queen yudy and the football team toured their home town of Morton in style, while the cheering crowd followed. HOMECOMING. Floats, banners, decorated cars and enthusiastic students characterized the l956 Homecoming, Late hours work- ing on floats didn't seern to fatigue the people involved, and the affair was lively as ever. The election of the Queen and her court highlighted the Snake Danceg and the parade the next afternoon dis- played the laloor, initiative, and clev- erness of the clubs and classes. After losing a hard garne, the play- ers and fans alike helped to make the annual dance a hu e success The Future Farmers again captured the first prize in the Homecoming parade, to make it their third year ot victory. The gals had to ask their favorite fellow and foot the hill The PHA. sponsored a Sadie Hawkins Dance which reversed the usual dating pro! cedure ol looys asking girls, The very deter- mined girls were bold enough to collect a large crowd ot willing boys, and the dance was a gala event. Four social hours, sponsored by each ot the classes, ranged in themes from dances to a carnival, and attracted many M.T.l-IS. party-goers. The parties were always a welcome source ot recreation, and the stu- dents who attended them tound fun and re- laxation. for the annual F.H.A.-sponsored Sadie Hawkins Dance. Student Council sponsored PlayfNites, where interested students participated in varie ous games and athletics. These informal at- lairs were a relatively new idea, and were executed with success. The formal dances of the year included the Philosophers Valentine Ball, and the jun- iorfsenior prom held May l8. These two danf ces added that special touch to the roster of parties at M,T,H.S. 12
