NEWCOMERS PARTICIPHTED RERDILY. The beginning ol school saw the initiation of the treshman class as a whole, and also the initiation oi new GAA. members. Social hours, held throughout the year, introduced fun into the school's serious business. At mid-term, Evamaria and Hans Weintke entered lVl.T.l-l.S. from Germa- ny. At about the same time, Mr. Iames Henry began teaching here. So o n came Student Control Day, where stu- dents became teachers, and teachers became watchful v but- silent supervi- sors. C. Hess gets the puff at the Sophomore Social Hour. ,. .iw Kay Kelley and Ronnie Grimm assumed the responsibilities of the principal cmd secretary on Student Government Day. 6

The cooks Mrs Eichelber er Mrs Hull Trips to Metamora Eureka, and Delavan tor exchange , , g , I assemblies were picnics of fun on the school bus. and Miss Birkey, prepared good mcqlg EMERGENCY DUDR -new me ,,,. Ytirsisgsmmy AFTER EXPERIENCED FRIENDS School is never all work, tor at M.T.H,S., there is usually some extrafcurricular activity in which to find pleasure. Class picnics were always anticipated with happiness, as were exchange assemblies with neighboring high schools. The schools three cafeteria cooks worked long hours to satisfy the appetites ot students. New menus, including hamburgers and trench fries, were introduced with gratifying success. The recentlyeacguired kitchen equipment made the food preparation taster, and resulted in tasty meals. The cafeteria was a noisy, but cheerful place every noon.
