W yW7 M1ss Grote teaches Home Economlcs I II III advlses FHA and IS a co ad vlsor of the Human Relatlons club She IS also a newcomer th1s year and was greeted by a hard case ot mumps Dur mg MISS Grotes absence her classes xx ere taught by the two student teachers from the U of I Mlss Woodburn and Mlss Samelson After teachmv the re qulred number of hours MISS bamelson too took to her bed XV1th mumps Thls amuslng course of events was com pleted when Mlss Woodburn awoke on Chrlstmas mormnff xx 1th you guessed THE MUMPQ' The glrls 1n Homemakmg I learn the fundamentals of eooklng and sewlng ThlS year all the glrls began by makmg blouses by the same pattern Thls en abled the class to work together on thelr garments They prepared an Easter luncheon and 1IlV1tEd the woman facul ty members The decorated table set tmgs and the good food made the lunch eon qulte a success Earller 1n the year thls class made several very clever posters on manners and good groommg and for some txme to follow they brlghtened the class rooms and hallways Mxss Smlth and Mr Whxtaker share the advlsory dutles for both the senlor class and the Cauldron Mr Whltaker also mspxres and supervlses the act1v1 tles of the Sclence Club whlle the Latln Club IS MISS Srnlth s responslblllty M T H S felt honored last sprmg when Mr Whltaker was chosen for a fellow sh1p by the Case Inst1tute of Technologv at Cleveland where he subsequently spent the summer Sxnce thls was a Gen eral Electrlc Felloushxp perhaps lt IS appropr1ate to descrlbe Mr Whlt3k9TS experlence as an xllumlnatmg one'
