Jordan Represented at Girl s State and Boy ' s State Linda Day represented Mortimer Jordan at Girl ' s State. The American Legion spon- sored summer program stressed the ideas of democracy and American system of govern- ment. Linda was very active in all phases of the program. Steve Farmer attended the Boy ' s State convention held at Samford University last summer. He learned of the importance of a democratic form of government and the du- ties of a good citizen. Steve was in city No. 8 and won the trophy for the best city. 28

Valedictorian Wayne Mulvehill Wayne captured the title of Valedictor- ian by obtaining the highest scholastic aver- age. He is an advanced academic student. Wayne also represented Mortimer Jordan in the competition for Optimist Club Schol- arships and was selected for a $3,000 schol- arship, bringing much honor to our school. The scholarship is to Samford University where Wayne plans to major in engineering. Salutatorian Janis received the second highest honor, Salutatorian. She is a business student. Janis was also chosen DAR Good Citizen and represented Mortimer Jordan in the competition for Optimist Scholarships. Janis Shaffield 27
