WHITE, GEORGE E. £ “What are you griping about? Next week it’ll be a toothbrush.” 173 Spartans seeking shelter, where? There . . . in that white barn-like structure. Dressing for battle, Preparing their armor. Excitement, tension Has the enemy appeared? Their leader steps forth, ah a piercing silence fills the room. We must win the battle, fight as a team, You’re five not one, five not one The spectators are entering, Is it really that near? Anguished minds repeating. Win the battle, win that battle. Silence, peaceful restful silence Shattered To the whistle- approach Spartans the contest begins. The enemy, that vile enemy from the south, seeking revenge They must avenge their first loss. All are caught up in the frenzy of the struggle. The onlookers begin their chants, “Eagles, Eagles . . . WeVe got to win, weVe got to win Get that ball away, get that ball away. “You’ve got it, youve got it, now use it.” What, Spartan against Spartan? Will the unity— the strength of the group be ruined? No, no, never. Personal conflicts contribute, personal conflicts contribute house against house, dorm against dorm, company against company the best of each group, contributing to the whole. Perfection of the body, following the perfection of the mind. Spartans readying for combat. experiencing reality, preparing to fight in a new are na- life. (Integral— 1962) f PORTS 32 J.
