COACHES- Bill Pendleton Dean Miller John Cappiello VGC Another highly successful and record breaking season was enjoyed by the track an.l Lizld team under new Head Coach Dean Miller and his hard working assistants. Combining m my wins with but a few dual and triangular losses. the Varsity placed fourth in th: Inglewood Relays. and was favored to take the Pioneer League Championships. Record smashing performances. such as a 9.9 hundred and 49.6 quartermile by sprint siizr Steve Haas. were many. Haas also combined with Dave Cooper, Jerry Holman, and John Peterson in winning the National Mile Relay championship. Two school records were made in the 440 and 880 relays during the Inglewood Rellys, even though these teams came in second and third. In the distance medley at Santa Barbara. Dave Brown, Paul Perrine, Furman Marsh, and Steve Haas came through with a victory. The Bees won about half of their meets, but the Cees, led by high scorers Arnold Tosh and Dick Masterson, went undefeated at the time this book went to press. They wer: f gvcr,:,l to take the Pioneer League. All the teams should be powerful next year with most of .172 strength lying in the juniors. At the time this book went to press, the swimmers under Head Coach Bob Hoffman and Eugene Hatfield for diving, had high hopes of placing well in the Pioneer League, one of the best in the CIF. Beverly Hills and El Segundo, two teams in the league, are expected to finish one and two in the CIF. The best meet of the season was against highly-rated Santa Monica, in which the Mon- arch Varsity won by the score of 46 to 40. The Bees and Cees beat El Segundo for one of their finest meets. Among the swimmers who hold top marks are Steve Horton, Warren Pickens, Mark Witt and Art Hale.
