The Monarchs were in second place in the Pioneer League slow start in the 1958 season when this Sceptre went to press, but still had a good chance to finish in first. The leading hitters so far have been Larry Balliett, Bob Pier, Barry Peterson and Gary Lofgren. The leading starting pitchers are Bob Anderson and Butch Reece, who are backed up by a strong relief staff led by southpaw Doug Carroll. The infield is greatly improved over last year's. The usual infield line-up has been Burton d B b Pier at Davies at first base, Frank Raia at second base, Larry Balliett at shortstop an o third base.
