V A W N uff , A ' fl If If fl -,T nn............- Attention: In 1953, the local draft board of the Morning Sun Console fgT f J idated School drafted the greenest bunch of recruits in a long time. The ffkd I' roll call went thus: Debora Griffith, Christine Haight, Cheryl Hamilton, I ihi! Deanna Kellogg, Margaret McClure, Karen McDonald, Vicki Minnis, Judy Stapp, K! Nina Secrest, Connie Stapp, Marlys Swanson, Dwight Byerly, Bruce Cum ings, John Cunningham, Harlan Devore, Frank Hayes, Richard lnghram, David Johnston, Doug Johnston, Tom Lee, Ted McDonald, Jerel McElroy, Mark Minnis, Andy Moser, Alfred Sellers, James Stahle, Bruce Stotlar, David Watson, and Bobbie Boline. 29 students: ll girls and l8 boys. The purpose of this draft was to prepare our class to face the cruel world, mainly Washington, D, C. It didn't take long to get our first real training in boot camp, Mrs. Deam was the ser- geant. Our training consisted of public beatings, time in the guard house Ccloak roomb, and the privilege of sitting on our leader's lap. Progress can't be held down though, so we found our ranks promoted to the private first class Cfirst gradeD. Mrs. Beck took over the training at this point. We gained and lost some of our troops. New recruits: Betty Boline and Richard Meeker. We lost Judy Stapp, Bruce Stotlar and Bobbie Boline, We picked up some fundamentals here, like how to sign our name with an X. A rather uneventful year. In second grade we lost more than we gained. New recruit, Dean Daniels. We lost Debbie Griffith, John Cunningham, Harlan Devore and David Johnson. Mrs. DeYarman held the whip this year. We acquired some real first hand experience here. There was a case of, not water on the knee, but on the desk. Under Mrs. Hetherington's regime in third grade, the columns swelled anew: New recruits: Lonnie McCune, Robert McKee, Kenneth Staggers and Bruce Stotlar. Bruce Stotlar decided the grass was just as green here as there, and returned. Our class got training in Indian tactics and were we brave! Miss Brown carried on the next year. New recruits: Daisy Keever, Victoria Calvin, Marsha Taylor and Michael Calvin. We lost Betty Boline, Connie Stapp, Andy Moser and Lonnie McCune. The evils of the world caught up to some of us that year, Some were exposed for participating in a scandalous crap game in the back room. Our war training went on. We immortalized the mighty Swamp Fox all over the yard in fifth grade, preying on innocent bystanders. Mrs. Whitham taught us. New recruit, Linda Mason. We lost Christine Haight and Jerel McElroy. In sixth grade, the class settled down under Mrs. McElhinney. The grade school was left behind and a new training camp loomed ahead of us. We lost Linda Mason and Ted McDonald. Seventh grade was marked by a change of command. Mr. Stahle gave up his post to Mr. Bishop. New recruits: Diana Delzell, Steven Harris and Steven Tisor. We lost Daisy Keever and Jim Stahle. Seveth and eighth grades were lawless years. One teacher wasn't enough to keep us down so we had several. Eighth grade recruits: Kay Winters, Jim McKee, and Ted McDonald. We lost Dean Daniels and Frank Hayes. Time marches on and so did we, and we were in high school, Here we sharpened our fighting skills on the gridiron, the mat, the gym and the baseball field. Coaches Darrah, Caldwell, Hardin and Nelson gave us this phase of training and helped us live up to the name HTigersU. A ninth grade recruit was Claudette Aynes. We lost Mike Calvin, Vicky Calvin, Marcia Taylor, Dwight Byerly and Kay Winters. Tenth grade recruit was Jim Garnsey, We lost Claudette Aynes and Al Sellers. Eleventh grade recruit was Al Sellers, We lost Robert McKee. We gave our first dramatic production of Shy Guy. Twelfth Grade: We gave our second production which was Tom Sawyer. We also witnessed a big Battle: NThe Battle of the Bandsw. Our training for the world in high school was marked by some outstanding per- sonnel, such as: Dale Venzke, Jack Marr, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Caldwell, Mrs, Willson, Mrs. Pittman, and Miss Gipple. SWXN G The SPRING SWING--BATTLE OF THE BANDS was held at M.S.H.S. on Saturday night, March 25, 1967, from seven until midnight. Over one thousand excited teenagers and adults packed the gymnasium to dance to the music of The Blessed Few, The Rovin' Kind, Peter and the Wolfs, The Echoes of Night, These Few, The Newcastle 4, The Mark 5, and The LeSabres. After the ballots were counted by the School Administrators, dance chairman, Al Sellers, proclaimed The Newcastle 4 winners of the S200 cash prize. The Senior Class of l967 added enough money to their treasury by sponsoring this event to insure a class trip to Washington D.C,! Everyone seemed to agree that the SPRING SWING was a real swingin' success. 9' 41.11" if, 1675 , ffl, LV fw' ZQQZZQZZZQMQQHQH'QWWMQWQQHWW ,MQ?7f4s aazaaiaaaesawhw f2W?wazhw2ifQaMf E 4 4 1' 32a Z s?ia?s,aaa2saweiagkiigasafswsr stag- fwmmaMmsamwwgZsgewM H vmfuaamxazamggfmesvf lf li aa 3632 ' ff av 5 issiiii f 1 Q ,w f fifjbiy .
