AFS was originated in France by a group of volunteer workers in 1914, to help young people go a- broad as exchange students. The program in the area began in 1971. My Fair Lady , a musical pre- sented by the Safford High School Drama Club, was the first AFS venture. Tickets were sold and profits went to finance Morenci's exchange program. Other fund raising projects were car washes, bake sales, selling AFS emblems. A fun filled evening of a bowling party and a water-melon bust was held in September to introduce the foreign exchange student, Fred Appiah-Boateng from Ghana, to the club members. Regular meet- ings were held every other Thur- sday to plan other club activities. 5:5 AMERICAN FIELD SERVICE MEMBERS INCLUDE: Front Row: Shelly Forstrom, Laura Russell, Fred Appiah-Boateng, Phyllis L.
