Track. As we pick up our newspaper, the Daily News of 1960, which is edited by Ethel Lake, in 1960, we notice the blaring headlines, "First Woman Secretary of State, Betty Losensky, Resigns Post." She has re- tired to a California winter resort owned by Vivian Waisanen. As we glance farther down the page we no- tice these articles: "Citations were presented to several nurses for their heroic act in getting the patients out of the Cure'em Hospital which burned down. Nurses receiving medals were: Ann Henry, Doris Peterson, and Lois Jean Robbins." "Milton Puntila has discovered a deposit of uranium in Alaska while prospecting for gold." "Hutchinson Construction Company has signed a contract with the Italian government and will take over the task of straightening the leaning tower of Pisa." "Kenneth Konu has left for China as a mis- sionaryf' "Finland's new premier, Lorraine Riihiluoma, is visiting the United States." "Teachers have gone on strike in Oloogo, Minnesota, for higher wages." We believe this is where Lois Ronkainen and Marlene Peterson have taken teaching positions in the first and second grades. Just a glance at the weather report before we turn to the second page. Ah! higher temperatures. Guess our old weather man, Melvin Jarvi, knows what the public wants. Now to the Society Page-The following articles caught our attention: "The Moose Lake Chapter of the Farm Bureau met at the home of President Janice Anderson last Monday." Other members present were: Louis Butkiewicz, Wilbert Lammi, Joseph Shusta, Thomas Skoczen, and Doris Forse. Just a reminder here, that the census is being taken again this year. Some of those employed for this are those stenographers, Beverly Illikainen, Juliette Johnson, Mae Korhonen, Ardelle Davidson, and Cornelia Tomczak. Agnes Jungers, the now-famous home economist will appear in Duluth for a dem- onstration in domestic science and will be assisted by Loretta Jurek. In Gail Jacobson's column, "Gossip About Hollywood", we notice that Roland Hultberg, director of M.G.M.'s latest picture, "Murder in the Night," has given the leading role to Delores Carlson, former Homecoming queen of Moose Lake. Listen to W. C. C. O. and you will hear Keith Johnson's new radio program, USwedish Melodies" at 4:00 p.m. every day. On the next page you will see a large picture of a department store. It is Barbara Peterson's new clothing store. She is having a grand opening next Thursday. Also, Faye Wilson, the famous stylist, will be at the opening. How about turning to the sports? i'Rockets meet Tigers at Madison Square Garden for Championship Gamefl This will be an interesting game as coach of the Tigers, Dwight Carlson, and coach of the Rockets, Bruce Paulson, played togelher on the same team during their high school days. We also notice that Cooper Madsen has renewed his contract with the Minneapolis Lakers. In the Want Ad section, we found these ads: "Lost--One blacksmith anvil in the vicinity of the Split Rock River. Reward. Return to Stanley Tomczak." Weaver Cross-Country Truck Lines has a big ad here on page 7. Bill is in the de- livery business on a large scale now. The Nelson-Korhonen Fix-It Shop is advertising used cars for sale. As we take a peek at the funnies, who shoald be the cartoonist but one of our former classmates, Palmer Hultberg. Now to the back page where we found two good editorials. "The Important Part Forests Play in Our Everyday Life", was written by Arthur Goodwin. News reporter, Adrian Hattenberger, has an excellent article on the Hydrogen Bomb. Juniors With smiling faces, the juniors look forward to their senior year, a year which marks the stepping stone to success and happiness. Gone are the worries of financing the Junior-Senior Promg instead are problems of graduation. Recalling the experiences of their junior year, they are able to appreciate the successful efforts of their capable advisor, Mr. Howard, and their popular president, Joanne Johnson, who have guided them over the rough road of their third year in high school. While Margaret Anderson, vice presidentg and Bob Gunderson, treasurerg have kept the class well informed with financial reports and plans for adding to the treasury, Gertrude Dudek has done her bit at the meetings by successfully fulfilling her secretarial duties. Yes, it's great to be a junior! Sophomores We have already climbed one step of the ladder of high school education, and have left our freshman year behind us. We have passed that year which is always the most humiliat- ing to any student's self-esteem. As this year comes to a close, the Class of 1952 is eagerly looking forward to our junior year, hoping it may be one of outstanding achievement, not only in our class-rooms, but in the extra-curricular field. The Class of 1952 elected Louis Waggoner as president. Other officers are Ernie Olson, vice-presidentg Billy Berglin, secretaryg and John Sandahl, treasurer. Row I-Billy Berglin. Whether it is a soprano or alto, each member of the choir is a Valuable asset to the qualitv and outstanding accomplishments of this organization. These voices were heard at the Fall Concert, Christmas Program, Spring Concert, and the Music Contest. "Glamour Bo ' ' A comedy "Glamour Boy," in three acts by Esther E. Olson, was presented by the Junior Class under the direction of Milton Howard on November 18, 1949. The plot centers around a high school boy, Chauncey Jay Mooney, who is trying to write his autobiography and wishes desperately he had something to write about. He finally writes a fantastic story. His rival for the affection of Georgia Belle, Flash Horner, sends the autobiography in to the National Con- test. When it was discovered that the autobiography had won, Mr. Garfield, the principal, thought Chaun- cey had brought disgrace to the entire town. Miss Thorndyke from the National Contest comes to Oakville High and explains to them that Chauncey still won the prize because every person lives two lives and he had written this autobiography on the life he wished he could live. He was presented with a check for 31,000 which he turned over to the fund to build a swimming pool. CAST Miss Davis .,,, ......,.... .....
