The Junior class of 1988 is a group made up of both athletes and scholars. Every challenge this class was faced with was met head-on and successfully conquered. This was a year of "firsts" for the Juniors. Some of their new trends were: receiving their Junior rings when they were sophomores, ordering class keys and graduation announcements extra early, having Mlss Mooreland in the spring instead of fall, having three Juniors as paper editors, and many other things. Other activities for the Juniors included Speech, FFA, FHA, 4-H, Track, Basket- ball, Football, Inklings, All-School Play, and planning for the Prom. The Junior boys even set some new trend themselves. Four Junior boys, Jason Hensley, Kent West, Mark Burdine, and Nell Mazuranic all joined FHA. All four were in the top ten to goto State Convention in April. Another big deal for the Juniors was the dreaded ACT test. Most went in a group to Woodward, Alva, or Stillwater. Is this supposed to prove the theory of "strength in numbers"? Taking this test proved to the Junlors that they didn't know everything! When it came time for Miss Moorelond, ten glrls entered and all were superb. No one even suspected the Junior glrls had such hidden talents as singing, dancing, speaking, and even walking gracefully! - A Junior class member's year is full of both happy and sad times and a great anticipation for what the future might hold. Although the Juniors of 1988 are the followers of today, they will definitely be the leaders of tomorrow. f at ,. 35. Not only did they become more active in organizations and sports, they were finally recognized as a class that was full of individuals, but still worked together. They were faced with many new things this year, including more homework and less time. To the really lucky ones came the privilege of getting a car. To the dismay of the up- perclassmen however, most of the sophomores had the chance to drive to school at least once during the year, causing a definite lack of choice parking places. After hours, the sophomores could be found in any variety of places. Shopping, hunting, and just hanging out at EZ-Pickuns were the favorite pastimes of sophomores. But through it all, the sophomores accomplished everything that was set 'before them and they did it with a definite amount of style. 35 'gwght great enthusiasm 22 Smitty's Conoco Compliments of NAPA Winning olwoys hos its drowbocks os Ke ' knows. With a seven hour school day, you've got even more books to keep track of and more places to be in atjust the right time. Dustin Goodman and Russell Fields managed to do all of this and obtain the honor of Valedictorian and Salutatorian with a 8.67 and a 8.62 grade point average respectively. Freshman have learned to create new and better excuses for being late to class and for losing books and assignments. Excuses range from the ever-so-popular "You mean that was due today?", to the very bizarre excuses that would confuse any sane person. But in the end, the freshman were just one step closer to the end. This was a class full of both individuality and togetherness. . The new seven hour school day allowed the eighth graders to take more classes. Some of the newer ones were Exploratory courses like Art, Creative Writing, Technology Education, and Typing. Another class for the eighth grade was Pre-Algebra. The eighth graders could be found at any sports activity, out hun- tlng whatever was ln season, and messing around with friends. The 1988 eighth graders are rising toward the top loaded with dreams and determination. They will be able to reach all their future goalsjust as they have ln the past- successfully. As you observe respected people and great leaders in history, you will find that many have followed these principles. If you, as a graduate from Moorelond High School, desire to be respected as a leader in your life, you should first learn to be gentle, secondly, learn to be frugal, and thirdly, proc- tice humility. Be gentle and you may be bold, be frugal and you may be liberal, and avoid putting yourself above others. Model these behaviors and your peers will elevate you to leadership. David M. Even though this was true, it did not hinder their hard work and determination to be a better team. As the year progressed, the players improved while also becoming more united as a team. They proved their unity and progress by beating rival Laverne to become the District Runner-Up. Their season finally came to an end against Boise City by a narrow margin of only one point. With the team only losing two seniors, the ex- perience that the underclassmen have had added to their continued determination and desire should make for better teams in the future. Several players were named to the Red Carpet All- Star team. They were Brooks Crawford and Jael Ken- dall while Gary Mitchell and Galen Hodgson were named as alternates. 7 fi. 4. We smile, cry and go on, as in the turning ofa page. Thinking of the past, brings happiness andjoy. But without this small shelter the real world is not a toy. We were all so innocent at first sight of this place. So many choices and decisions to make we can't turn back, no time to waste. I remember they said, "Don't rush, or you'll be grown." We laughed aloud, the years gone by and now we're on our own, We can see the foolishness in cheating on that test, or laughing at teachers we now see they knew best. We can't say what will happen in the coming years. But we know where we've been as we say good-bye thru the tears. It is time for us to leave - but we stop for one last look. Then turn into the real world.
